Pistols will not stop a threat instantly unless you have great shot placement. In the heat of the moment, you’re pulling the trigger as many times as you can. Plenty of people have been shot with pistols and kept fighting or kept doing whatever they were doing for a long time.

The human body can survive a hell of a lot of truma and still be a threat. If you feel your life is in danger, you should never shoot once. Make sure that threat is neutralized, especially in an environment full of other potential threats. I'm a firearms instructor, i teach everyone to shoot till the threat is clearly neutralized, then still be prepared to shoot again.🤷‍♂️

This is what we were taught in our CC class. Try to de-escalate, and avoid shooting, but once the decision to shoot is made, shoot until there is no longer a threat. And the instructor finished with, “Women, especially, should empty their magazine.”
