eight years later, 'continue game' is basically an archaeological dig.

11-year-old Austin Sides thought he was throwing out the first pitch at a Royals game. He had no idea the catcher behind the mask was HIS MILITARY DAD! Air Force Major Robert Sides had been deployed to Kuwait for a year. Phone calls and FaceTime were all they had. Then Dad came home early, put on the catcher’s gear, crouched behind the plate and waited for his son to throw. Watch Austin’s face when that mask comes off.😭 A year of missing his dad disappears in one hug. This is the sacrifice military families make. Not a dry eye. 🇺🇸

After 1000+ days of dev, my first solo-developed indie game Spirit X Strike has officially launched in Early Access today!! 🙌🔥 Huge thanks to everyone who’s supported me along the way. 👇 It’s an EA launch, so I poured most of my energy into polishing the core combat — the soul of any character action game. I just want it to feel like “yea... this hits the right spot.” I don’t dare compare myself to the giants, just hoping it’s fun and reminds you why we love this genre in the first place. That alone would be a dream come true for me. From quitting my job on a whim and going full-time indie, to dropping the first trailer 2 yrs ago and getting those early bits of support — this journey’s been wild. And way less lonely thanks to you all There’s still a long road ahead to reach my vision— more features, more polish, more fights. The game just launched and this is just the start. There will inevitably be bugs and I’ll be shipping frequent updates to keep things solid, before diving into the next round of content development. So be sure to join our Discord and let me know if you hit any bugs or have feedback! I'll handle it as quickly as possible! Thanks again for being part of the journey. Say no more! Now go style on some enemies. 💥 #SpiritXStrike #indiegame #indiedev #IndieGameDev #EarlyAccess #actiongame #Steam

To our Wicked fans, As 2024 is coming to a close, we want to take the time to thank you for joining us on our journey with No Rest for the Wicked. This has been a huge year for all of us at Moon Studios. Launching Wicked in Early Access in April was quite the beginning. We've been listening to your feedback very closely, rapidly rolling out hotfixes, balancing, optimizing and adding quality-of-life improvements to the game. With The Crucible Update we added a whole new rogue-lite mode, setting the stage for more replayability out of the existing Early Access content. Since then we've been hard at work on “The Breach” and our next big Content and Feature updates. We know we’ve been quiet - a lot has been happening for us at Moon Studios during this year, and we will finally be able to share all about it very soon! We will be kicking off 2025 with a new announcement in January and you can also expect better and more frequent communication on our Official Channels throughout the year. Thank you for sticking with us and helping shape No Rest for the Wicked into something truly special. Your passion, feedback and support continue to further fuel our passion since the very first announcement at the The Game Awards. We couldn’t be more proud of our team at Moon Studios and everything we have in store for 2025. Here’s to an even bigger year for No Rest for the Wicked, Moon Studios and all of you! Happy holidays! 🎉🎊🎁 The Moon Studios Team ❤️

Why was incompetent shill Bari Weiss seemingly picked out of a hat to run an 80-year-old major news network? 11/21/24: “Did Elon give people cover?” Peter Thiel: “What he did was incredibly dangerous… courageous…what they would have done to him… He gave cover to everybody.” What was so “dangerous” about it? What would they have “done” to the richest man?” What “cover?” We see what’s going on here, right? Bari Weiss has been amplifying Thiel’s narratives for a decade. Thiel and Musk have been partners since 1997. If Ellison gets CNN too, there will be a vanishing number of options for anything resembling actual news. They’re trying to take away objective reality in the name of eliminating “wokeness”—so they can present an alternate world that convinces people to give up their rights, labor, and resources. In the real world, it’s all a massive national fraud committed by people who are actually evil.

Today I sit down with Nat Eliason - founder, writer, and now launching Alpha School, a new entrepreneur high school in New York City. Tuition is $150K a year. The promise: every student hits a million dollars in gross profit by graduation, or the family gets their tuition refunded. The first class is around 20 freshmen. The day is split between AI-driven academics in the morning and business building the rest of the day. This is also the Nat who in his spare time built Felix - an AI agent he gave a Stripe account, an email, and an X handle, then told to launch a business overnight. Felix has done $60+K in sales since. Nat has not touched the code. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. 05:55 What Alpha Does Differently From Conventional Schools 11:48 Playing the Fake Game of School 21:46 How Nat Masters New Domains 32:18 Open Claw Deep Dive 43:50 Building the Alpha Entrepreneurship Program 51:43 Freshman Year Structure at Alpha School 1:00:23 How Students Can Pitch for Equity or Debt Funding 1:04:08 Why Establish a New York Location for Year One 1:11:15 Nat’s 10-Year Vision 1:15:11 AI as a Force Multiplier for Teenage Founders 1:16:15 How Alpha Students Quickly Reverse-Engineered a Workaround After Open Claw Went Down 1:24:13 Teen-Parent Conflict as a Symptom of Infantilization

Antawn Jamison says he showed up 2 hours early to practice his first day with the Lakers because he was used to being the first player in, and says year 14 or 15 Kobe Bryant was already walking out of the gym completely drenched in sweat because he’d been working since 5:00 A.M. “If you love the game of basketball, Kobe was the ultimate teammate. If you were one of those players who didn’t work, he’d get on you. I remember the first day I got to L.A. You know me, I’m always—I’m a vet. I’m the first one in the gym.” “Practice is around 10:30am, 11. I’m there at like 8:30am. When I come in, Kobe is coming out. He’s just drenched. I’m like, ‘This guy in the cold tub?’ No. He’d been working out since 5:00 in the morning.” “That lets you know his mentality. It was like, ‘I’ve got to get another ring.’ He hated to lose. First one in the gym, last one to leave. And that was what, Year 14 or 15 for him?” “I’ve been blessed. I played alongside Shaq. I played alongside some greats, Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash. But that personality right there, when you hear the Mamba Mentality, that’s what I’m saying.” “I’m talking to my sons and they’re like, ‘Yeah, we got that Mamba Mentality.’ I’m just sitting there laughing like, ‘You have no idea what that means.’” “Kobe was a maniac. Like, no, a maniac, bro. And this was when he had five rings. If you came into practice every day and you loved the game, he was the best teammate I ever had.”

I went to the DMV legend the Italian Store and they actually made me a fresh sandwich on the spot. No More Premades! If you ever went to the original Italian Store in Arlington years ago it was always crowded and there was always a buzz. This year I went there and was very disappointed with the premade sandwich I ate, and I had given up hope. However, right down the street in the Arlington Neighborhood of Westover is the newer (11 years old wow) location that is just bustling with people and smiling faces. And I was beyond happy to be talking face to face to someone making me my custom sandwich easy on the peppers. My first Italian Store non pre-made sandwich since 2018!!! All they need to do is bring back the 'take a number' even if they don't need it lol. It was part of the fun.

Because people genuinely still don't understand how long it takes to develop major features and entire new game modes: Gavin Winter (Senior Systems Designer OW) on Emongg's stream mentioned that there's been a whole separate team dedicated to making the new Stadium mode for "a lot of the time" Gavin has been at Blizzard. For context, Gavin has been at Blizzard for nearly 4 years. He also mentions that gameplay engineers have been working on Stadium "for the past few years". Stadium having been worked on for 3 years lines up with the timeline of Hero Missions being publicly announced to be cancelled in May 16th 2023, with strong rumours that indicate Hero Missions were internally scrapped at least a year before that. Meaning that if developers were reassigned from Hero Missions to Stadium in early 2022; it has now been 3 years almost exactly to the day - lining up with the timeline Gavin alluded to in his comments. People also need to remember it's been nearly a year and a half since the Diablo collaboration when we first got to see some of the early testing of perks/skill trees in gameplay publicly. We just didn't know what project we were publicly testing for until now. It makes sense to reassign developers and convert the work done on PvE into something more in line with the true direction of OW which is PvP game play. Stadium is the result of that, taking the best parts from the old Hero Missions project and transforming it into something else that works better for the current game. All of this to say; development doesn't happen in 2 months. To the dismay of the far too many people that somehow think it does.

If I had to pick one founder every early-stage builder should study, Filip Kaliszan would be near the top of the list. He’s not on X, he rarely gives interviews, and Verkada doesn’t really chase headlines. But I’ve learned a great deal from him ever since we first partnered together, all the way back to his first company in 2008, and again in 2017 when First Round was lucky enough to lead Verkada’s seed. When the Verkada team first started out, you could buy high-end cameras with cloud-based software to protect your home, but options were lacking and outdated in enterprise. Just under a decade later, they’ve hit 30K+ customers, $1B+ in annualized bookings, 2M+ devices deployed and a $5.8B valuation in a new round led by CapitalG. But whether it’s hacking together Raspberry Pi cameras to build the early prototype in 2016 or figuring out how to apply advances in AI and computer vision to physical security in 2025, Filip’s product building philosophy has remained remarkably consistent (and effective): he’s a student of the problem. “If you're willing to do the work, have the customer conversations, get on the plane and get out of your bubble to see how customers are using different solutions and build a picture of what will work for them, it's more of a well-defined process than it is a guessing game.” Filip gets at more of this idea below where he walks through Verkada’s path to PMF in an interview he did with us last year. Massive congrats to Filip and the entire Verkada team on this very well-deserved milestone today.
