Inside a B-17 Flying Fortress Under Fighter Attack (1943) 🇺🇸🇩🇪 Filmed by William Wyler in 1943 for his documentary The Memphis Belle, this footage captures B-17 Flying Fortresses of the 91st and 305th Bomb Groups flying real combat missions during World War II. The footage shows B-17 gunners engaging attacking German fighters as enemy aircraft launch repeated attacks against the bomber formation during a real combat mission. It offers a rare firsthand look at the aerial combat faced by American bomber crews during the U.S. Eighth Air Force's bombing campaign over occupied Europe.
