Last year in Parliament, I spoke about India’s AI journey and two clear priorities. First, from Make in India to Make AI in India. Build our own capability, invest in research, and strengthen the infrastructure and compute we need to compete. Second, make advanced generative AI tools accessible and affordable for every Indian, in every language, so that no one is left behind. It is good to see AI back at the centre of national conversation as India hosts key discussions on its future. Now the focus must shift from intent to implementation. If we expand access and build with ambition, India can move from being a technology user to a technology leader. The question is not whether AI will shape the future. The question is whether India will help define it.

In 2013, at SRCC, PM Shri Narendra Modi spoke of the potential of a young India. Tomorrow, he returns to SRCC as that vision continues to take shape. He envisioned an India that would lead in manufacturing, compete in global markets, build its reputation on quality and harness the strength of its youth. More than a decade later, India’s growing capabilities, global ambitions and confident young generation reflect that vision in action. “21वीं सदी हिंदुस्तान की सदी बन सकती है।” The possibility he spoke of then is the India we see today.

He says, “India is one of the world’s leading IT industries, and this is the beginning of a new IT platform. I had the benefit of seeing Modi ji a decade ago talking about AI. I’m really anxious and very excited to see local companies and startups in India starting to take advantage of this technology, contribute to it, and build a local AI economy.”
