2016 really broke Carl Edwards He couldn't sell himself on working another year in 2017 just to have it come down to another restart.

Manipulating races is what drove me to other forms of racing.

Don’t blame him. This is why the format needs fixing. It’s honestly sad.

Kenny Wallace predicted this was why cousin’ Carl stepped away. He was right.

I mean everyone had this same prediction

Don’t blame him, the chase format screwed him out of 2008 & 2011 and then when he finally has a chance to beat the system and format in 2016 they take it from him with a BS yellow to get JJ a chance for his 7th title. Honestly glad he took a stand and left to be with his family

And this is what we all already knew.

A full season format would be so much more rewarding for everyone involved. With the NextGen car, it is highly unlikely anybody runs away with a championship like they did in the Gen4. Do the right thing for 2026. @NASCAR

If you cant respect this mans opinion on the truth from that caution that year in that race - i got nothing for ya. He all but had it locked up. I love that he isnt hip tied to Nascar were he kisses there boots not speaking the truth. Good for you CE.

As a lifelong Carl Edwards despite it being 7 years from that crash, still have a hard time watching highlights from that race. Knowing he was 10 laps from a championship and NASCAR screwed him over.

@_TaylorKitchen_ He said here that 2016 Homestead made him realize he was not meant to be a driver and it was time to move on. I think that's a bit of a rationalization considering he also said earlier that year he was at Pocono questioning wtf he was doing with his life.

@_TaylorKitchen_ Yeah, homestead was the final nail
