#OTD 2011 - In Game 6 of the World Series played at Busch Stadium, a Cardinals baseball legend was born - twice! David Freese has one of the greatest clutch performances, in one of the craziest games in the history of the World Series. The back-and-forth game saw the Cardinals come back from a two-run deficit in the bottom of the 9th inning and again in the 10th inning! David Freese (with the Cardinals down to their final strike) smacks an opposite-field two run triple in the bottom of the 9th inning to tie the game to send it into extra innings. In the top of the 10th inning, Josh Hamilton hits a two-run home runs, seemingly giving the Rangers their first World Series Championship... Now trailing 9-7 as they head into the bottom of the 10th inning, the Cardinals still had plenty of fight in them. Ryan Theriot's single scores Daniel Descalso to bring the Cardinals within one. Lance Berkman (with the Cardinals down to their final strike once again) slashes a single to right-center field to tie the game at 9 and send the game into the 11th inning. 🎙️"They just, won't, go, away." - Joe Buck Starting pitcher Jake Westbrook comes in to pitch the 11th inning, and holds the Rangers to just a single, to set the stage for Cardinals magic. The first batter of the inning is ... David Freese Freese wins the game in dramatic fashion, with a walk-off home run to the grass in center field to send Busch Stadium into a frenzy, and the Cardinals into game 7. 🎙️“Freese hits it in the air to center. We will see you, tomorrow night” - Joe Buck #STLCards

End of an era. Nearly six years ago, trent.sol and I were sitting in Greg Fitzgerald 🦀 's basement ordering computer parts on Newegg to hand-build the first metal validators for Solana. Mainnet was still a ways away, hardware and network requirements were unknown, docs, tools and best practices were nonexistent. Even Testnet was barely more than a periodic bringup of a handful of cloud VMs. Our tiny but mighty early validator community were basically all on a first name basis with one another. A few months later, Trent and I, along with a couple other early Solana Labs employees, racked the resulting 7 machines in a data center in Denver. These were the first ever colocated nodes to serve Solana. In early 2020, we used these glowing green machines to help serve the genesis block and launch Solana Mainnet into the world. Today, the data center that houses them is shutting down. Trent and I went over this morning to tear out the rack to discover we were the last remaining tenants in a now otherwise abandoned facility, with apparently a single staff member left on hand. It was a little emotional for me to see these shut down, even though they haven't been active on the network for a very long time, having been repurposed for development work a while back. It's always humbling to reflect on how far Solana has come in so little time - taking down a handful of old, wonky hand-assembled boxes from the genesis days and considering today's huge global reach of the network, the devs, the products, and especially, all of you. Thank you all for being along with us on the wildest ride.

The almighty yard is no longer in control. That’s the worm way of thinking—“acts of revenge.” The Freedom-Loving Ukrainian Bird works differently: surgically, against what they hold sacred. This morning’s spanking in the courtyards of the Leningrad region once again shatters the myth of “the yard that taught Vova to strike first.” You know it by now, bunker bastard: this is not revenge for the missile strikes that hit residential neighbourhoods in Kyiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kherson and other Ukrainian cities over the past 48 hours. You’ll keep paying for those with thousands of occupiers’ bodies—day after day, exactly as the Bird has decided. Meanwhile, in the swamps and in our Crimea, a methodical, mathematically calculated operation with no expiration date is underway under the motto: “The yard is no longer in control.” Until “Moscow will fall.” A global mission. A pragmatic one. As one of the Birds from the 1st USF Operations Center, Mr. Warrior, likes to say: “Step by step.” So, gentlemen, let’s get back to work. 🔥 On July 4, 2026, the Saint Petersburg Oil Terminal was successfully struck by the 1st USF Operations Center, SOF, SSU, HUR, and other components of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. 🌶️ And yes—today the USF Birds switched off the 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th electrical substations in Crimea in just the first three days of July. The greening operation is nowhere near finished. Eyes and Sting—the worms’ worst nightmare. MAGYAR 🇺🇦 04.07.26

Dangerous weapons to be taken off our streets. Government to launch new knife surrender scheme in July as part of Plan for Change New initiatives include secure van for anonymous weapons surrender, including Ninja swords, and 37 amnesty bins. Initiatives to be led by members of Coalition to Tackle Knife Crime members, Faz Amnesty and Words4Weapons More dangerous weapons will be removed from our streets through an ambitious new government surrender scheme in partnership with the Coalition to Tackle Knife Crime – part of the government’s mission to halve knife crime over the next decade. Throughout July, knife crime activist and member of the government’s Coalition, Faron Paul, will drive across London, the West Midlands and Greater Manchester in a purpose-built and fully secure van, encouraging young people to hand over dangerous and illegal weapons safely. This is the government’s most ambitious weapons surrender scheme to date and will also see a major expansion of anonymous surrender bins in partnership with knife crime charity. Words4Weapons. The Home Office is funding 37 new surrender bins across London, the West Midlands and Greater Manchester – the three highest areas of knife crime in England and Wales. Part of the government’s Plan for Change, these initiatives will give young people more options where they can securely hand over weapons, without needing to go to a police station, helping to keep our streets safer and take more weapons out of communities. Young people will also be encouraged to hand in all types of weapons, including Ninja swords – which will be banned in full from 1st August. Policing and Crime Minister Dame Diana Johnson said: “This government is taking a different approach to tackling knife crime — one rooted in partnership with those who have first-hand experience of this devasting crime. “We are committed to halving knife crime within a decade as part of our Plan for Change — and that demands bold, radical action. “That is why we formed the Coalition to Tackle Knife Crime, not as a talking shop, but as a genuine, working partnership and these new initiatives are a direct result of that collaboration. I’m deeply grateful to Faron Paul and Sandra Campbell for their leadership in driving them forward. We know that young people involved in crime can have complex pasts and often deep-rooted mistrust in authority, and I truly believe it’s this kind of collaboration that will save young lives.” Faron Paul, CEO of Faz Amnesty said: “The launch of the UK’s first-ever amnesty van is a historic moment — not just for FazAmnesty, but for communities across the country. In partnership with the Home Office, this van allows us to take our mission directly to the people, giving them a safe, secure, and discreet way to hand in offensive weapons. For years, we’ve worked tirelessly to remove knives and other weapons from our streets, and this van is a major step forward in that mission. It’s more than just a vehicle — it’s a symbol of hope, change, and second chances. This is about saving lives, protecting our communities, and breaking the cycle of violence. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come — and this is only the beginning.” The Home Office has partnered with surrender charity, Words4Weapons, to manufacture these bins. Words4Weapons already have several weapons bins placed across London, Hertfordshire and Sheffield, and help to connect young people with local services to access the best possible help. The scheme will also include a limited compensation offering for Ninja swords handed in ahead of the ban on 1st August. Any members of the public wishing to surrender a Ninja sword in exchange for compensation will need to safely take the weapon to one of the designated police stations. Any member of the public found with one of these weapons following 1st August will be breaking the law and could face time in prison.

🇸🇪🇺🇦 Ukraine’s Lesson: Why the F 35 Is the Wrong Tool for a Real War Modern air power debates often obsess over the most advanced aircraft. Ukraine has learned something far more important: war is not about the most impressive jet. It is about which aircraft can keep flying when everything around it is under attack. That is why Ukraine is looking toward a future built around the Gripen E. Ukraine could have continued with F 16s and Mirage 2000s. They already have experience, infrastructure, and trained personnel. Instead, they are prioritizing a fighter designed from the ground up for survival in a hostile, missile saturated environment. That choice tells you everything you need to know. Gripen E represents a different logic. It is not built to depend on large, permanent air bases. It is built to disappear. A useful way to understand the problem with the F 35 is to imagine a luxury hospital operating room. It is filled with world class equipment and brilliant specialists. But it only works inside a clean, stable building with uninterrupted power, supply chains, and security. Move that same equipment into the middle of a disaster zone, and it quickly becomes fragile. The F 35 works best inside a controlled ecosystem: long runways, heavy maintenance, predictable logistics, and time on the ground between missions. In a real war, those conditions are exactly what the enemy targets first. Gripen E is closer to a battlefield field hospital. It is designed to operate with minimal support, from short and improvised runways, with fast turnaround and a small, mobile crew. It can land, refuel, rearm, and take off again before the enemy has time to react. And it does not need to return to the same place twice. That difference is decisive. When air bases are under constant surveillance and missile threat, survivability comes from dispersion and tempo. Gripen E can take off from unexpected locations, strike, land somewhere else entirely, and be ready again quickly. That makes it hard to track, hard to target, and hard to neutralize. This is not about generation labels. The F 35 is a fifth generation fighter. Gripen E is often described as generation 4.5, but it integrates key technologies normally associated with newer generations. More importantly, it is cheap enough to fly often and simple enough to keep in the air. Ukraine understands this because it has no choice. It has learned that air power is not about having the most advanced aircraft. It is about having aircraft that survive the first strike, the second strike, and the hundredth strike. That is why the lesson from Ukraine is uncomfortable but clear: the F 35 may be impressive, but in a real war, it is the wrong tool to rely on alone. Stay connected, Follow Gandalv Gandalv
