Slo-mo side angle strikeout to end the game from ‘27 Ethan Armbruster (Ethan Armbruster). Slo-mo side angle look at uncommitted ‘25 Hunter Vincent (Hunter Vincent) on his finals pitch of his outing. The 6-4, 215-pound LHP was up to 9️⃣4️⃣ multiple times in first and settled in at 91 MPH from a 3/4 arm slot. Worked a hard, power curveball at 81-84 MPH and flashed a two-seam with run at 90-92 MPH that has some life. Went 6 IP striking out 8 with 2H and 4 BB. Another intriguing DL for MSU: NIU transfer Raishein Thomas (No. 25 in the clips below). Was listed at 6-4, 262 for the Huskies, but is now up to 290. Added mass allows him to hold up better inside and in those odd fronts. Back-to-back plays here from him. 1) Good job setting the edge on first-and-10 to set up a second-and-8. Then 2) follows it up with an effective stab that almost collapses the backside of the pocket right into Shapen’s lap. State did a nice job of adding several quality bodies to its DL from the transfer portal.

Number 1 is supposed to close but Aryna Sabalenka almost didn’t. She was one sloppy service game from getting bounced from her own U.S. Open, and she still beat Linda Noskova 7-6, 3-6, 7-6. It took two tiebreaks and a lost middle set, but she pulled it off and her third straight New York title is still alive. That’s the drama fans have come to expect from Sabalenka, and it’s why they still show up. Not for the version of Sabalenka who leaked rounds in Cincinnati. Now she faces an American next. If she plays like she did today, the same building that had to pause her match for weed smoke last week is going to see more drama and then get to live with her playing again this weekend.

1B/3B Max Jensen, Cornell Keep an eye on this kid. Easy to fall in love with the long, athletic, 6-foot-3-inch frame. Clearly more strength coming into his upper half. Posted a .358/.455/.561 junior season. Parlayed that into a .386/.441/.648 showing in the NECL. Jensen has always shown hitterish traits with higher swing rates and above average bat-to-ball numbers. Swing doesn't have any glaring holes. He’s loose and adjustable in the box and seems to be able to get to anything. Despite his size, bat speed has never been a huge strength of Jensen’s, though it sounds like that’s been the emphasis this fall/winter. If he begins lifting the ball more frequently and getting to his pull-side like he’s capable, he’s got a chance to go inside the top-half of the draft as a priority senior. Primary first base, but sneaky athlete that looks passable at third base at this size. Just something about his film. Diamond in the rough/hidden gem type.
