26 years later and this lightsaber duel is still epic

26yrs ago?

The sound track is what completes it and makes it the most epic probably the most epic sound track in cinema

Yes. But also frustrating that the actually killed off Darth Maul in this first movie. The writers should have had him escape so he would have more scenes in Episode II!

Dude ... cutting it before the Darth Maul Obi Wan end fight was just mean. Like HARD STOP! I was into it, waiting for that final pairing where those two men were fighting so FAST! Pure high octane adrenaline action! When it stopped before the end my brain was like "... wait, what?!?" Still ... I totally agree. I wish we could get back to this level of action again within the franchise, but I fear we'll just have to enjoy the relics of the past and admire their awesomeness. Today's cinema and TV truly typifies the saying, "Lesser sons of greater sires."

Ray Park doesn’t get enough credit

In fact, it is so good that it has not been surpassed yet. And all of the more recent Star Wars light, saber battles, feel like rehearsals

26 years later and this duel still clears every lightsaber fight since, no contest

The fact that it is named the duel of the fates is even better.

Darth Maul needs a stand alone film

Star Wars never topped this duel.

no it was lame then and it is lame now. even the actor said his death was lame.

It was amazing. Unfortunately Jar Jar and rhe kid ruined the rest of the film.

One of the best. Although it's not real and CGI, I think the battles in the trailer for old republic are GOATed

Darth maul should have returned light saber included! Why did they change original plans??? George Lucas originally intended for a cybernetic Darth Maul to return as the main antagonist of his sequel trilogy (Episodes VII-IX) after the Disney acquisition. In this version, Maul was to be the "godfather of crime in the universe," taking over the power vacuum left after the fall of the Empire, with Darth Talon as his apprentice.

I enjoy it, but the real pay off is years later on Rebels, when Maul's rematch with Obi-Wan lasts about five seconds. Maul tries the move that kills Qui-Gonn again, and Obi-Wan soresus him into oblivion.

The lightsaber duels in the prequels are insane

Ah c'mon man i was ready to see Obi v. Maul and now i have jump to tube.

Ray Park is awesome

Still not as good as real life noodle fights:

Pre woke was peak Cinema Now it would be Bad Bunny and a lesbian beating an old white guy

The bit where Qui Gonn meditates is the single best moment in an otherwise largely crappy set of prequels. The contrast between his calmness and Maul's pacing back and forth, perfect That moment was EXACTLY wat I wanted to see from the Jedi at their peak

I was amazed when I saw this in theaters with my dad We just kept looking at each other like bro this is insane

@JJ1neLove5 Yes sir!

The theater shat it’s pants when he ignited the double blade

They actually had to slow it down. The speed they were going at was insane, unedited.

Some of John Williams’ best work

This battle is the epitome of Star Wars to me 😍🥲

It was an epic duel 🤺

Yes, that will happen when you cast a stuntman as your villain.

The only good scene in the prequels

@Adam_Oats I’m visiting this map in a month or so

The prequels are underrated. Especially episode I had its lows. But this was none.
