The US Navy is being extremely narrow minded & short sighted on auxiliary support for combat ships. Intermediate repair facilities are a must for where they are needed. In a real war base installations and yards will be a legitimate target (5th fleet).

The replacement for the Trident class is going to be about 20 years late. Submarines have a 30 year lifespan and the Tridents are already 40 years old and this project is going to be at least 10 years before on service.
