CNN: He claimed that China builds a lot of wind turbines and manufactures them for others, but refuses to use it itself, barely uses wind power. In fact, China is the world leader in the use of wind power. It is building additional wind power in China far faster than the pace at which the U.S. Is building in the United States itself. So the idea that China is just, you know, foisting this terrible source of energy on other countries while refusing to use it is a reversal of reality.

In this week’s Science Committee Democrats hearing, I asked the Under Secretary of Science why the President’s budget request for solar and wind technology was zeroed out. He talked about advancing the fundamentals of basic science, but when I asked whether he disagreed with Secretary Wright’s claim that wind and solar infrastructure is worthless when it’s dark outside or the wind isn’t blowing, he couldn’t answer. This administration is a walking paradox.

AGL, which operates the $850 million project and is a joint owner through the Powering Australia Renewables Fund, said in a statement that the blades of one of the 123 turbines will have to be replaced entirely, while GE Catcon is also going to replace “generators” – referring to the equipment in the nacelle at the top of the wind tower – in a further 50 turbines.” •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Not only are wind farms unreliable in terms of wind dependent generation. They break easily as we saw last week on the Darling Downs. If the blades on a wind farm can’t survive a summer storm on the Darling Downs they will be useless. A single nuclear plant, for example, produces around 1,750 megawatts. To match that, you need roughly 150 large turbines. Wind uses over 100X more land than nuclear for the same output.
