Let’s be respectful of the fact that we don’t know everything. That’s the receiver’s fault.’ How do you know?” “You weren’t in that meeting room. The game is chess. It’s not checkers.” “We look at the head coaches, but let’s look at the assistant coaches. To me, those are more important. I didn’t coach the players as a head coach. I coached the coaches.” “I wanted them to have that relationship with the player, not just me. If intervention was needed, I would intervene. OVERCOACHING 👎 When in played in Europe I was speaking with the GM of my team and discussion some of the former coaches they had at the club. We got to an American Coach they had and he said ‘typical American coach, he overcoached the whole game’. I’m not saying I agree with this, but it made me think about the role of a coach and how too much talking/coaching can hinder performance and development. I am still not great at it, but try to be mindful of how and what I say. One of the best attributes a coach can have is learning when to ‘stay out of the way’ of their players.

OLB Keion White spoke highly of assistant coach Mike Smith after Tuesday’s practice. This video shows some of their work together, with White saying: “I have a really good coach helping me. Coach Smith was telling me steps, alignment, things like that I haven’t traditionally heard. So just that next step of having that coach behind me is really big for me. “… It’s helpful because it slows it down a little bit and trains me. He’s doing a good job of saying, ‘This is what you need to think of, this is your thought process.’ That’s something I don’t think I had before and what I was missing; I was training myself, I’m not going to lie. This coach crashes out at a 14U baseball game. The coach comes down from third base and screams at the home plate umpire. It’s quiet as can be so he has everyone’s attention. He tells the umpire that he has been great all tournament but this particular call was abysmal and he knows it. 🤯 The fans clap after he finishes. 😳 The man behind the fence behind home plate (tournament director?) yells at the coach that he just said it, he’s been great all tournament but you are going to lose it over one questionable call? What I don’t get is the fans clapping. They are just encouraging this horrible behavior. Sad that we have parents that support that. If you told me as a coach before the tournament that this umpire would be great the whole tournament but will miss one call, I’d say that’s my guy, that’s my umpire. But to just completely lose it in front of all those boys? Shameful. Another coach who thinks he coaching the the World Series in MLB. And we wonder why there is an umpire shortage? Do you prefer and approve of a coach like that? (Some people do) or do you prefer a quieter coach who keeps his emotions in check?

My Grandpa, Tom Caflisch coached as a Special Teams Coach for 21 years Falcon Football. Many years ago, he told me about this new coach coming to town, @CoachWalkerRF was the new head coach, he said “He’s the guy that’s gonna turn around River Falls Football.” He echoed it year after year when I’d visit because he saw what was happening daily. When I got into college coaching as a GA at MSU, he set up a meeting with Coach Walker, “You have to meet this guy.” We sat down for Lunch on a weekday at Bo’s and Mine and talked ball for an hour and a half about the Crush front and Pop passes, along with other things. After, Grandpa C goes I have no idea what you guys were talking about but that was awesome. 🤣😂 Fast Forward to my grandpa getting sick. Not only did Coach visit him, he sent Freddy the Falcon (The Mascot) to see him. When he passed Coach and his staff came to his funeral, and remembered him with a moment of silence pre-game. So you wanna know why UW-RF is where they are? It’s because of the people and it starts at the top.

Today was one of the hardest days in my Franklin County high school basketball career. Since I was in 6th grade, I could not wait to play for the lady flyers. It felt so good to see coach Thacker support us at our middle school games. My first year playing was my 7th grade year. Since then, Joey Thacker has coached, trained, motivated, encouraged, and pushed me to be what he knows I could be. He held me accountable while also congratulating me on jobs well done. I watched him sacrifice day after day to be in the gym with us. He stayed strong while his family was handling health concerns. No matter what, he has always been there for us. For me, he has been one of the best coaches I have ever had. I have so much I could say, I’m just having a hard time getting my thoughts out. I love you coach Thacker. Thank you for being a coach that realty cared about his players and not about the wins and losses. Thank you for your sacrifices. Thank you for building a program that set the standard in the 11th region. After 22 years, 1 2A state championship, 2 sweet 16 state runner ups, 5 elite 8 finishes, 7 11th region championships, 94 straight 41st district wins with 12 straight district titles, and countless tournament championships, my coach will be retiring. It hurts to not be able to finish up my high school career with him as my coach, but I am so happy for him and his family. I am happy to say I played for Coach Thacker since my 7th grade year and would not trade any minute of it. I would have love to have just 1 more year with you. 💔As always, I will continue to text you even if you are not my coach anymore lol. Sorry I didn’t get you the KHSAA state championship😞. We had the pleasure of interviewing Ron Frost, Head Coach of Nicholls Softball, who shared his unique story and the “why” behind what fuels his passion for college athletics. Coach Ron is a college baseball player turned college softball coach. The Atlanta native was a pitcher for Alabama State Baseball, and after his playing days he pursued coaching within the baseball program. Frost went on to start a travel ball organization in Alabama and work in sports turf management before finding his way to coaching softball at Vernon College Athletics. In 2022, Frost came to Nicholls as an assistant and was named Head Softball Coach earlier this summer. We look forward to sharing highlights of our conversation with Frost over the next few weeks! It was to see Percy Harvin play and practice up close in person!!! it may sound like an exaggeration, but I promise you it’s not Urban Meyer said it best arguably and I wouldn’t argue the greatest player to ever put on a helmet!!!! 💯💯💯💯🤝🏾🐊😤 P was just different!!!!! I believe we have a replacement on this current roster. Can’t wait to see it unfolded!

He was more like a sporting director and coach at the same time. Most of the time, he told our then-coach, Ernesto Valverde, who needed to play and who shouldn’t play. That wasn’t the shocking part because I discovered he also had a say in which players Barcelona should sign during the transfer window. It was really weird for me because this was the first time I saw a player bigger than the club.”

This High School baseball coach sounds like has his hands full. I feel for him. He kicked this senior off the baseball team. Listen to the senior laugh and then try to degrade the coach. When asked why he was kicked off he said the reason was they took him out of the game (for who knows what) and they didn’t speak to him about it. So, he got on his phone in the dugout and was texting with his mom telling her to not bother to come to the game. Everyone knows you aren’t to be on your phone in high school during a game. Just by listening to the student and also the fact the coach had an officer present, I can tell what I already need to know. Sounds like the coach is trying to turn a program around. Do you think the coach made the right decision? Context is everything I know, but listening to him, can’t you kind of gather what the issue is? Who thinks this is exactly what is wrong with our younger generation?
