The batter hit the ball back to the pitcher and the pitcher overthrew first base. But, the umpire called a dead ball and called the batter out and ejected him from the game. Even if it wasn’t intentional, there has to be consequences after a third time. He could seriously injure the catcher. This will help the batter in the future hopefully. What do you think? This umpire called a ball that the defensive team thought was a strike. The coach called a timeout after the walk and gathered his infield on the mound. On the next pitch, the catcher slid to the right out of the way of the ball making no attempt to catch it and let it drill the umpire right in the mask. Umpires are fallible human beings. Bad call? Maybe it was. But intentionally letting the ball hit him is poor sportsmanship, dangerous and has no place in the game. The coach, pitcher and catcher should all be ejected from the game. Heck, I might just call the game if I was the umpire and if that is what you are teaching your players, maybe that coach should never be allowed to coach again. What would you do if you were the umpire? How about if it was your child pitching or catching? And what are you saying to the coach if he was the coach of your team?

This happened during a 12U girls softball game. The umpire had called batter’s interference on the previous batter. As he is getting ready to call the next pitch, he pops up and tells the coach at third base that he doesn’t want to hear it. He doesn’t want to hear one more word, that it was batter’s interference and it’s an easy rule to understand. The coach says something and the ump tells him he’s gone. Then he hears one of the players laughing and ejects that player but the kid says “I didn’t do anything” and the umpire says “you’re F’n laughing.”😳 Then the parents get all up in arms over the cussing and he loses it and starts ejecting the parents. One parent tells the umpire that he’s gone for using the F word. 😂 The umpire continues- “you’re gone! Get out of here! Get out of here! You’re gone! And then tells them “You have to leave. I don’t think you understand your position in these games. “🤯 What a fiasco this turned into. 💯 The umpire shouldn’t be cussing. That we know, but, the coaches and parents and players getting on an umpire, laughing and belittling him, it’s just too much. If they all had kept their mouths shut none of this would have happened. He’s the umpire. He makes the calls. Arguing it isn’t solving anything and just escalates the tensions in the game. He should have remained calm and taken control of the game but he let his own emotions take over. Another day, another game, another embarrassment from all the adults involved, including the umpire, in front of twelve year old girls. 🤦‍♂️ Again, what is the answer to all this? How do we get this to stop? How do we put the focus back on the kids and teach them how to play the game right and how to act accordingly?

This baseball game took a turn for the worse in a hurry. The much bigger coach comes out to argue and gets in the umpire’s face, chest to chest. The umpire shoves him away and then the coach comes in and grabs him by the neck. The umpire takes a swing but misses and then finally the other coaches come onto the field to break everything up. Some people said that the umpire pushed the coach first, which he did. Others said when someone is chest to chest with you and in your face, he had every right to try and keep some space and distance between them. The umpire tells the coaches to call the cops because it was assault and one of the parents agrees with him. But someone said he pushed first so who is the assault on? This is wrong from every angle. Look at that poor catcher. He doesn’t even know what to do. Another day, another baseball game for young men ruined by the coach. What in the heck are we teaching our young players? It would take $500 bucks for me to even think of umpiring in this day and age. People are crazy. Who do you think was at fault? The umpire for shoving him first? The coach for arguing in the first place and grabbing him by the neck? Both of them? Sad state of affairs all around.

This Georgia Bulldogs batter, Tre Phelps, was ejected after he hit a go ahead home run against Liberty in the NCAA Regional Final game in Athens. Phelps homered and has he starts to run the bases, the home plate umpire felt that he was taunting the Liberty dugout and he continued to celebrate all the way around the bases. You can see some Liberty players ask him “what are you doing?” I guess the umpire had seen enough. Georgia Head Coach Wes Johnson was also thrown out for arguing Phelps’ ejection. Many people said he was waving to his family and said it didn’t matter, that he should be allowed to celebrate and that you can’t eject a player for that. Others said they were glad he was ejected and that there is no place in the game for this type of behavior- taunting the other team. If I was his coach I would have been livid at him for acting that way. Respect the game, respect the players and act like you have been there and just play the game. Quit the theatrics. What do you think? Do you think the umpire was justified in ejecting him or do you think he had a right to celebrate?

The kid immediately tapped his helmet like the pros do for an instant replay challenge. The umpire thought it was extremely disrespectful. He told the coach that he wasn’t going to tolerate any other kids doing that. He said he’s going to talk to the coaches before the games now because it’s an avenue for kids to argue balls and strikes without voicing they are arguing balls and strikes. Many people said the umpire was soft. Many said it’s a kids game, let them play and stop whining and man up. But some said if you give the kid an inch in showing disrespect then it can open the food gates and that he shouldn’t tolerate it and they agreed with him. Me personally? Im old school. You aren’t going to show me up whether you are the coach or the player. I’d do the same and give a warning to the coach and anyone else doing that afterwards is gone. What do you think? This minor league pitcher for the Lake County Captains threw an inside pitch and the initial call was a foul ball against the batter for the Dayton Dragons. The batter was bent over in pain. Replay clearly shows that the batter was hit on the elbow but he is wearing a plastic elbow guard so maybe the sound made the umpire think it hit the bat. The coach comes over to vehemently argue the call and the umpire ejects him from the game. I didn’t see the plate umpire ask for help from the infield umpires. If he didn’t, he should have. The coach had a legitimate argument and was correct. I thought minor league baseball used replay too so not sure why it wasn’t reviewed. Maybe they don’t. What’s even more bizarre is the pitcher ends up striking the batter out and then starts celebrating and walking towards him. They ejected him. 🤯 Do you think if an umpire ejects a player or coach over arguing a call but it is determined later that the player or coach was indeed correct that the umpire should be penalized somehow? A fine maybe? A game assignment taken away? I think they should.

This 18 year old senior HS baseball player volunteers to umpire. This 15U coach goes crazy over a call that ended up tying the game with 2 outs. Another day, another baseball game and another coach losing his mind. 🤦‍♂️ It’s the bottom of the last inning, there’s two outs and runners on first and second base. The pitcher throws a wild pitch. The ball skips away and bounces off a bat the umpire said. If it hit an on deck bat near the dugout, it is a dead ball and the runners advance. You can’t see the play and the coach argues that it hit the dugout pole and not a bat. (Guess he had a better angle from the third base dugout).😳 The umpires meet and at first they tell the runners to go back to where they were. But they continue talking and then say the runners advance. 🤯 The coach was ejected. 💯 The game ended in a tie when a play at the plate on another wild pitch but the runner being called out at home. This was the beginning of a tournament and you can hear one of the parents tell the coach to calm down as they have the rest of the tournament ahead. Not sure what gets into these coaches but no amount of arguing is changing a call. Let it go and just let the young men play. Do you think something needs to be done about these coaches and the way they are acting and the words spewing out of their mouths? Doesn’t it seem like it is a daily occurrence now?

This 8U/9U girls softball game had some unruly parents…. And it also had an awesome umpire who gets it. After this parent’s daughter scored he yells to her “…run through her if they are in your way. Run through her. “Another parent then says, yeah, run her a** over.” The umpire hears it and walks over and tells him ,”Don’t do that Pops, don’t do that. Don’t do that man, it ain’t that serious…Calm down. It ain’t that serious. Calm down. Calm down. It’s called sportsmanship.” ❤️ That umpire is a hero in my book that day. He is exactly right. He reminds them this is just a game. It is NOT that serious and it IS called sportsmanship. I wish every game had an umpire like him. That is excellent stuff. 💯 These parents telling their little girls to run over someone in an 8U/9U girls softball game? That’s disgusting and crazy. Don’t you think it’s getting to the point where we are going to have to have a rule that says parents can’t say anything? Maybe we need an umpire in the stands who watches just the parents?

This is an 8U coach pitch baseball game. The ball is hit up the middle and the second baseman throws home to the catcher. The catcher goes to make the tag, the runner slides- “SAFE!” is the call. The coach from the defensive team is out there immediately screaming at the umpire telling him that the catcher’s glove touched the runner. He goes on and and actually dusts off home plate with his shoes. 😂 Most people said that this coach or any coach that acts like this should be banned from coaching. 💯 These are 8 year old kids in a coach pitch league! 🤯 This is not the World Series. These are young kids, they aren’t even pre-teens yet. Spend more time coaching and have your catcher in position by the plate instead of being 3 feet out on the field in front of home. This is totally unacceptable. There is never a reason to act like this let alone in front of 8 year old little boys. Did you see all the college scouts there? 🙄 What is the answer? How do leagues put a stop to this? Wouldn’t you be embarrassed if you were his wife or kid? My goodness.

Bill Cowher says assistant coaches are more important than the head coach, and explains why he coached his coaches instead of his players: “There’s a lot more going on behind the scenes. Let’s be respectful of the fact that we don’t know everything. That’s the receiver’s fault.’ How do you know?” “You weren’t in that meeting room. The game is chess. It’s not checkers.” “We look at the head coaches, but let’s look at the assistant coaches. To me, those are more important. I didn’t coach the players as a head coach. I coached the coaches.” “I wanted them to have that relationship with the player, not just me. If intervention was needed, I would intervene. But let them do their thing.” “Let the coaches call their games. Let the coaches coach the individual players. You can see it from afar and coach the coaches. That’s how you give them a chance to become a head coach.”

This play happened a couple of years ago in a regional final matchup. Unique to say the least. A single up the middle to center field. One run scores. The center fielder charges and throws home. The second runner is coming in to score. The runner slides, the catcher swipes at his arm, was he safe or out? The issue here is the runner who scored before stays behind home plate and is waving for the next runner to get down. The home plate umpire bumps into him, trips, and falls down and doesn’t see the play. 🤯 You can defer to the field umpire but if he didn’t see it, what call can you make? 🤷‍♂️ Some said the runner should be out because the player who scored first interfered with the home plate umpire. I have never seen a play like this. What do you think? What’s the call? Safe or out?

This happened today at the Cooperstown Village All Star Village in Oneonta, New York. The 12U championship game, 6-0 Alpha One vs 4-2 St. Pete Rough Riders National. Alpha One had just hit a grand slam home run to tie it 7-7 with no outs, and 5 minutes left. (They have a max game time clock) But the umpire called the batter out on an appeal for not touching home plate. You can see the batter jump and it’s hard to tell if he caught the edge of the plate, but he backs up and he looks like he touches the plate with his foot. What’s strange is you don’t hear any coaches telling the catcher or pitcher to appeal at first. However, you see the umpire talking to the catcher. They throw the ball to home the first time but no ruling is made. Then the umpire talks to the catcher again and they throw the ball home again on an appeal I’m guessing. The umpire calls him out. This is not a Rec league game, this is a travel ball championship where teams from all over the country compete and lots of money is spent. I personally thought it was very odd that you hear no one yelling to appeal and that you see the umpire talking with the catcher. In a still frame photo, to me, you can clearly see the batter’s right foot on home plate, imho. It should have been a grand slam. Alpha One feels they got robbed of the championship. I agree, but you be the judge. Did he touch home plate? Or, did the umpire make the correct call? Out or safe?

Paul Pierce on Chicago Bulls Front Office saying next GM they hire has to keep Billy Donovan: “In most cases when a new general manager comes in, he wants to bring in his coach of choice. When you clean house at the top in the front office, it don’t make sense to bring in somebody who hasn’t had the success with the Bulls to keep them in place, you know, and then like if things don’t work out, who do you blame? Do you blame the GM? Do you blame the coach? He’s going to come back to Reinsdorf and say, “Well, you didn’t let me bring my coach in that I wanted.” I understand that Billy Donovan is a solid NBA coach, but like the general manager that comes in, if he has a plan and he has a system that he wants to kind of like implement. You have to allow him to do that.
