Doc Rivers HOF speech: "When I was playing for the Knicks, Coach Pat Riley & I had the biggest argument in my entire playing career "Jeff Van Gundy told me years later he was standing outside the door…thinking he may have to come in if he heard furniture moving "Finally during the shouting match Coach looked at me and said: 'One day when you're a head coach––and you will be one (he was screaming at me) you WILL be one––you're gonna understand exactly where I'm coming from' "And I literally yelled back at him: 'Are you crazy? I am neeever gonna coach; every coach that I know––they're nuts' "Well I wanna tell Coach Riley thank you for being right on all accounts "And one of the lessons he taught me was: Never coach a person for who they are today; push them to who they should be someday "That was very important for me"

Doc Rivers reveals he once got into a heated argument with Pat Riley that taught him one of the biggest lessons of his career: never coach people for who they are today, but push them toward who they can become “Coach Pat Riley, when I was playing for the Knicks, Coach Riley and I had the biggest argument in my entire playing career. I know all you players thought, you know, I used to go at coaches too.” “And during the shouting match, Coach looked at me and said, ‘One day, when you’re a head coach, and you will be one, you’re going to understand exactly where I’m coming from.’” “And I literally yelled back at him, ‘Are you crazy? I am never going to coach. Every coach that I know, they’re nuts.’ Well, I want to tell Coach Riley thank you for being right on all accounts.” “And one of the lessons he told me was to never coach a person for who they are today, but to push them to who they should be someday. The idea that “Penn State turned down Urban Meyer” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard Urban (3 Nattys) has more Big Ten titles in the last decade than Penn State….and he’s been retired for 7 years He could be the Head Coach at Penn State by lunch today if he wanted

Bill Cowher says assistant coaches are more important than the head coach, and explains why he coached his coaches instead of his players: “There’s a lot more going on behind the scenes. Let’s be respectful of the fact that we don’t know everything. That’s the receiver’s fault.’ How do you know?” “You weren’t in that meeting room. The game is chess. It’s not checkers.” “We look at the head coaches, but let’s look at the assistant coaches. To me, those are more important. I didn’t coach the players as a head coach. I coached the coaches.” “I wanted them to have that relationship with the player, not just me. If intervention was needed, I would intervene. But let them do their thing.” “Let the coaches call their games. Let the coaches coach the individual players. You can see it from afar and coach the coaches. That’s how you give them a chance to become a head coach.”

Steve Kerr: "To coach Steph Curry who is undoubtedly the greatest face of a franchise that I've ever seen in any sport. He just lets me coach him and he wants to be coached and he's just an incredible partner and collaborator. The only thing I've learned is that I'm really blessed"

Perry Thompson after flipping from Alabama to Auburn: “Nick Saban is a good coach, all the stuff he has in college football and all that, but I know he specializes in DBs and my main position is receiver. I know Hugh Freeze has a background of developing receivers at a higher level. Just that, how he gets receivers to their highest point.”

Terry McLaurin showed up to Ohio State Football camp as a 4 ⭐️ high school wide receiver who would go on the be Mr. Football in the state of Indiana, but that meant nothing to Urban Meyer. Even after killing his workout Meyer told him he wasn’t OSU material. Even suggesting that he go back home and catch 200 footballs a day. That’s exactly what hat Terry McLaurin did, and he caught them from whoever would throw them. 2 weeks later he went back and earned that scholarship. To Terry, the “No” was a not yet. It’s that work ethic that has turn this special team’s demon into a top notch NFL wide out. Pivot Podcast & the extremely underrated Terry McLaurin #OSU #UrbanMeyer #ThePivot #WashingtonCommanders #NFL

Danny Gonzales, who was once a head coach, says he wants to be Arizona’s defensive coordinator through the 2032 season. “I want a chance to play in the College Football Playoff and win championships at the Power 4 level. I'm as happy as I've ever been. … “I work for an unbelievable human being and amazing football coach. Let's just keep winning so we can have this conversation in 2032.”

THANKS FOR PAVING THE WAY COACH CORSO On the wall behind me is my “picks page from the rundown of Corso’s final headgear game at Ohio State.. I asked Coach to sign it with his Ticonderoga on the field. He did and told me “Your turn now Pat” I did a Ticonderoga Pencil for him yesterday.. I was a bit emotional that he saw it and called me.

Coach Jason Todd on SMU QB Kevin Jennings, who played for him at Coach Todd: "Probably one of the few kids I've coached that I know he can handle that success because he's so humble. If it was me, I'd probably be walking around SMU with a mink coat on, driving a Bentley." 😂

Elise Stefanik just said that Jim Jordan's time on the wrestling mat where he was a coach who IGNORED systematic abuse by a team doctor at Ohio State University is somehow a QUALIFICATION to be the Speaker. George Orwell approves of this message. #SpeakerOfTheHouseVote

OLB Keion White spoke highly of assistant coach Mike Smith after Tuesday’s practice. This video shows some of their work together, with White saying: “I have a really good coach helping me. Coach Smith was telling me steps, alignment, things like that I haven’t traditionally heard. So just that next step of having that coach behind me is really big for me. “… It’s helpful because it slows it down a little bit and trains me. He’s doing a good job of saying, ‘This is what you need to think of, this is your thought process.’ That’s something I don’t think I had before and what I was missing; I was training myself, I’m not going to lie. Now I feel like I have a coach.” (Accompanying note: Smith played at Texas Tech and was a seventh-round pick of the Ravens in 2005.)

This coach crashes out at a 14U baseball game. The coach comes down from third base and screams at the home plate umpire. It’s quiet as can be so he has everyone’s attention. He tells the umpire that he has been great all tournament but this particular call was abysmal and he knows it. 🤯 The fans clap after he finishes. 😳 The man behind the fence behind home plate (tournament director?) yells at the coach that he just said it, he’s been great all tournament but you are going to lose it over one questionable call? What I don’t get is the fans clapping. They are just encouraging this horrible behavior. Sad that we have parents that support that. If you told me as a coach before the tournament that this umpire would be great the whole tournament but will miss one call, I’d say that’s my guy, that’s my umpire. But to just completely lose it in front of all those boys? Shameful. Another coach who thinks he coaching the the World Series in MLB. And we wonder why there is an umpire shortage? Do you prefer and approve of a coach like that? (Some people do) or do you prefer a quieter coach who keeps his emotions in check?

I believe Nick Saban is saying this because he once was a coach and realizes how silly the narrative has become about a coach that’s won 90% of his games. He knows that fans want to win but don’t have to get as silly as they’ve been. He can’t come out and say it but he intentionally said 🐂 💩 …..: I know and knew what he meant. That was a message to awkwardly send love to Day Straube.ryan and Ohio State Football @itiswhatitis_talk

My Grandpa, Tom Caflisch coached as a Special Teams Coach for 21 years Falcon Football. Many years ago, he told me about this new coach coming to town, @CoachWalkerRF was the new head coach, he said “He’s the guy that’s gonna turn around River Falls Football.” He echoed it year after year when I’d visit because he saw what was happening daily. When I got into college coaching as a GA at MSU, he set up a meeting with Coach Walker, “You have to meet this guy.” We sat down for Lunch on a weekday at Bo’s and Mine and talked ball for an hour and a half about the Crush front and Pop passes, along with other things. After, Grandpa C goes I have no idea what you guys were talking about but that was awesome. 🤣😂 Fast Forward to my grandpa getting sick. Not only did Coach visit him, he sent Freddy the Falcon (The Mascot) to see him. When he passed Coach and his staff came to his funeral, and remembered him with a moment of silence pre-game. So you wanna know why UW-RF is where they are? It’s because of the people and it starts at the top.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Ron Frost, Head Coach of Nicholls Softball, who shared his unique story and the “why” behind what fuels his passion for college athletics. Coach Ron is a college baseball player turned college softball coach. The Atlanta native was a pitcher for Alabama State Baseball, and after his playing days he pursued coaching within the baseball program. Frost went on to start a travel ball organization in Alabama and work in sports turf management before finding his way to coaching softball at Vernon College Athletics. In 2022, Frost came to Nicholls as an assistant and was named Head Softball Coach earlier this summer. We look forward to sharing highlights of our conversation with Frost over the next few weeks!
