When I was a child, if I’d asked my mum why Regan here said he was a woman when he was clearly a man, she’d probably have said he was confused or unwell. But she’d also have told me to be kind - and not to snigger about him with my friends. What she would not have done - under any circumstances - is tell me he was a woman. How many wounds do they carry that no one can see? How many people have ignored them, chased them away, or shown them cruelty instead of kindness? Yet, despite everything, they still wag their tails, look at us with hope, and wait for someone to show them a little love. They cannot tell us when they are hungry. They cannot explain how much they hurt. They cannot ask for help in words. They have no one to complain to, no one to fight for them, and often no place to call home. For many of them, a bowl of food, a gentle touch, a little water, or a moment of compassion can mean the difference between despair and hope. Kindness costs nothing, but to a homeless animal, it can mean everything. Please choose compassion over indifference. Choose love over hate. Feed them when you can. Offer water during hot days. Drive carefully. Never hurt them. And if you cannot help, at least don't make their lives harder. The world can be a frightening place for those who have no voice. In the face of this devastating natural calamity, it’s incredibly moving to see people going beyond all boundaries to rescue and care for animals dogs, cattle, buffaloes, donkeys, horses every soul that’s suffering in silence. They are wading through floodwaters not just to save human lives, but also the voiceless ones who cannot ask for help. Feeding them, sheltering them, loving them this is true seva.
