The World Bank never released any rankings; it simply released India's consumption-based Gini index. 2. The Government incorrectly compared India's consumption-based inequality index with other countries' income-based inequality indices to rank India at the fourth spot. 3. Academic literature has established that inequality, when measured using consumption instead of income, is underestimated. The Government said that policies such as PM Jan Dhan Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfers, Ayushman Bharat, Stand-Up India, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, and PM Vishwakarma Yojana have led India to greater income equality. But data shows that India's inequality measure - the consumption-based Gini score has remained around 25.5 for decades, without the level of progress the Government claims. The massive inflation of the real estate market (hard assets) compared to real income indicates we are all getting poorer over time. The published government inflation data (housing, food and everything) is massively underreporting what is happening.
