44 years ago today, “1999” by Prince was released.

1999—the album—has quietly crept up to the top spot of my favorite Prince albums over the years. Sex, religion, politics, mankind, it's all there and it's all funky. He was on the cusp of stardom but already fully immersed in what makes us us. Great cover art work too.

I love how he changed the beat to hit on 2 and 4. Not many did this before this release.

I can take or leave Prince TBH, but this was the best thing he ever did. His discography was ok up until "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" which is pretty terrible, and it was all downhill after.
