“The Message” by Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five was released as a single 44 years ago today.

The most important song in Hip hop history 🔥🔥🔥🔥

That was one of my 1st Hip-Hop memories as a little baby watching Much Music in the early 80s, 1 year old me was a big fan of the production.

That opening still stops me. 44 years and it hasn't dated a bit.

the greatest band in history. no brag just fact. taught my kids how to talk by reciting 'beat street' while they were in the womb. 'the message' was their nursery rhyme. 'super rapping' while doing abacus work taught em equations, concentration, quick thinking n feng shui.

They should remake this video and music every 10 years, showing the times of that decade.

My top 5 Hip Hop Anthems in no particular order: 1. The Message 2. Paid in Full 3. Criminal Minded 4. Fight the Power 5. T.R.O.Y Salute to the pioneers.

if you listen to the words.. little has changed since then.

A very important piece of music for sure

Dis da shit -w-

The birth of early rap. This track has been sampled heavily. SugarHill Records was the Death Row/Bad Boy back in the day ran by a woman Sylvia Robinson

The first rap song many people ever heard.

And just like ball of confusion by the temptations not much has changed! Unfortunately.

My introduction to hip-hop.

@larry_irving Don’t push me.

Old joke, still effective

It's interesting they hated the record and that is why only Grand Master Melle Mel is on the record.

Dang. Still true. Also why is the original tempo of the song unnaturally fast?
