Funny timing. I canned bacon in mason jars back in 2008. An adventurous friend of mine sat down with me a few weeks ago and we opened it together. It needed to be crisped up, but it was delicious. The 18 year old bacon was yummy.

There was a show called Eating History where they did that. It was so good! I understand why they only did one season.

The moment you start frying it your nose will tell you if it's OK or not I'm sure. Bacon and Fresh Bread are two of the best odors on planet earth.

It probably wouldn’t taste very good, but as long as the can didn’t have any holes in it, and it was still sealed the likelihood of it making you sick is slim. I would eat it if there wasn’t anything else.

I’ve tied a teeny weeny bit of a lot of things that didn’t exactly look all that good, but that stuff looks plumb nasty. Just for looks alone, not even knowing the taste or smell, I might be tempted to tongue tip it, if it didn’t smell rank. 🤒

3 and 2 but only if there was nothing else to eat and It was late and I did not have money for delivery. First ,A little nibble, and if no problem 15 min later, I will have bacon for dinner that night . I would have asked grok first, but would be afraid the answer would be no.

Only thing I’d be worried about is if the metal from the can may have done anything to the bacon. Like if it was made with lead.

You're absolutely right Kurt! Lead poisoning is no joke. I’d skip it unless it was literally a survival situation.

I'd risk it. In 2012, a chef ate 4,000 year old bog butter found in Ireland and it was fine. And I believe an archeologist ate 50 year-old larded meat from WW2 not that long ago. So, yeah. I'd give it a go.

Kevin Bacon considers the premiere of "National Lampoon's Animal House" (1978) to be one of the "Worst" & "Most Depressing" nights of his life. Kevin Bacon was waiting tables & attending acting school when he was cast in his debut movie, "National Lampoon's Animal House" (1978). When the casting director of the movie came & asked for some "College Freshmen types", he was selected. While auditioning, Kevin Bacon didn't have any lines. He was asked by John Landis to be "Smarmy". Bacon had no idea what the word meant but he made a face & John Landis, who was impressed by it said, "That's it.. That's smarmy... bring this guy back". After finishing the movie, Bacon went back to Film school and felt like a big star but eventually he had to get back his old job of waiting tables. On the day of the movie's premiere, Bacon was very excited & asked for a night off from work. When he went to the premiere, many of the actors from the movie were flown out from Los Angeles & arrived in limousines and other expensive cars, but Bacon was on the other side of the red carpet. One of the actors took pity on him & let him go inside. When the security saw Bacon near the theater, he asked for the colour of the ticket. Since he had none, Bacon was sent outside. He felt humiliated. Afterwards he went to the movie's premiere party where he wasn't recognised by anyone, which Bacon felt might be due to the slightly longer hair he had at that time. When he tried to hit on the women by mentioning his scenes in the movie, they were like, "Yeah, whatever" & asked "Where is Belushi?". Bacon got "F**k*d up", left the party, went back to the restaurant he worked & hung out with his friends. (Kevin Bacon in the "Howard Stern Show", 2013) P.S: Happy 68th birthday, Kevin Bacon!

Loaded Potato Soup: The Ultimate Comfort Bowl There’s a reason this soup is a "forever favorite." It’s rich, creamy, and hits that perfect nostalgia button every single time. Here is the play-by-play on how to make it and why it’s a total mood. The Game Plan Prep the Base: Dice up celery, onion, green onion, and garlic. Peel and cube 4 large potatoes. Bacon First: Crisp up 6 strips of bacon in your pot. Remove the bacon but keep the oil—that’s the secret flavor! Sauté & Spice: Cook your veggies in the bacon oil. Stir in smoked paprika, kosher salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. Thicken & Simmer: Add 5 tbsp of flour to make a roux, then pour in 2.5 cups of vegetable stock and a spoonful of bouillon. The Creamy Finish: Stir in 2 cups of heavy cream and your cubed potatoes. Let it boil for 12 minutes. Load It Up: Fold in a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese, your crispy bacon, and chopped green onions. The Vibe & Taste Imagine the creamiest mashed potatoes you’ve ever had, but in a velvety, silky soup form. It’s savory, smoky from the paprika and bacon, and packed with layers of melted cheese. Every spoonful is a warm hug for your soul. The Perfect Pairing Nothing beats a thick slice of golden, buttery toasted sourdough or a grilled cheese for the ultimate dip. If you’re looking for a fresh side, a crisp green salad with a tangy vinaigrette balances out the richness perfectly. Who else is craving a bowl right now? Let me know if you’re team "extra cheese" or team "extra bacon"!

I verified this and it’s true “This is a class Group 1 carcinogen. The new study warns there's NO SAFE amount of ham, bacon, or even pepperoni for human consumption” Processed meats including ham, bacon, pepperoni are now definitively linked to cancer (Group 1), and newer 2025–2026 studies reinforce thee is no “safe” level that exists for regular consumption “One flimsy cut is lubricated with over 28 bio stabilizers. It's an ammonia-washed paste glued together with synthetic hydrocolloids. That color is then artificially enforced with a corrosive rust inhibitor called sodium nitrite. Group 1 carcinogen that ranks on the same pedestal as a cigarette. Your high-protein sausages were inhumane scanning for plastic residue and inorganic arsenic contamination” Additional info: Many processed meats use mechanically separated meat or binders like hydrocolloids (e.g., carrageenan, xanthan gum) for texture, and ammonia treatments occur in some poultry/beef processing (to kill bacteria), it’s not universally in ham/bacon/pepperoni (but it is used) The study comes from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization (WHO) IARC evaluated extensive evidence and classified processed meat (including ham, bacon, pepperoni, hot dogs, sausages, etc.) as Group 1—“carcinogenic to humans.” This is the highest level, based on sufficient evidence that it causes colorectal cancer in humans (with some links to stomach cancer).

It’s a snake! 🐍 NO…it’s a BACON! 🥓 Is your child prone to irrational fears? When one of these triplets drops a piece of bacon on the kitchen floor, anxiety and tears ensue when her sister determines it looks like - and thus must ACTUALLY BE - a snake. Suddenly none of the three is comfortable picking it up… including the child who was literally just eating it. What causes her to rethink her own experience? Young children can be very susceptible to suggestion. Here, not only has her sister suggested that the stray bacon might actually be a snake, but is visibly agitated by the possibility - leading our hero to question even her own experience. What’s the best way to handle such fears as a parent? First, recognize that irrational fears are still fears. Treat your child’s concerns as valid - even when they may seem silly to you as an adult. Next, offer - and model - reassurance. Your own calmness will be an important cue to your child that they are not in danger. Finally, help your child to problem solve. Your questions and guidance are invaluable. In this case you might offer something like, “Oh isn’t that interesting? Snakes do sometimes look squiggly like that. But wasn’t this just in your hand? You ate it, right? And you wouldn’t have eaten a snake. I tell you what, let’s go take a closer look at it together and check it out!” And then file it away as a great family story. 🙂 These adorable little bacon lovers were shared to IG by alyssa_mcewen.
