I've had some replies that this Pete Crow-Armstrong catch IS actually a routine play, so here is a VERY similar play: The CF has the exact same distance to cover, and .2 of a second longer to get there. The CF (Carroll) was faster on the play, by about a foot per second. It's a double:

Just a 20% catch probability on this 108 MPH liner, and that doesn't consider it's in shadow for most of the flight and then comes into bright sunlight at the end. Decent argument it would have been one of the best catches of the year if he made it. It's just a routine double well past most outfielders and they don't get blamed for not saving a no-hitter.

This Wyatt Langford catch from yesterday is a great example of why catch probability is good to know. Just a 45% catch probability here. Why? Any MLB outfielder catches this ball if they get there. Most can't get there. Langford's jump is elite, +8.7 feet above the average outfielder. The jump is so good he doesn't even have to get up to top speed. This is just a routine double into the gap much of the time, and the TV viewer thinks nothing of it:
