It's hard to describe how impressive Frontier: Elite II was when it was released in 1993. David Braben's masterpiece sequel of Elite (1984) seemingly took forever to be developed, but the result was mindblowing. Trading, combat, exploring - all part of the original Elite concept - but now on a truly galactic scale. If you ever wanted to know what it means to feel small in a game, Elite II showed you exactly that. Often, I would just hop from one planet to another for the sheer joy of flying through space. Literally millions (!) of planets; just like the universe, Elite II seemed to have no end, no frontier. I know when you look at the graphics today, they look very basic, but in 1993 this was stunning. Sometimes it felt more like art than just a game. I was never good at it, never reached Elite status, but it didn't keep me from getting totally lost in space and time.
