A Big problem with many young kickers on kickoffs. A wide angle takes away from linear power and directional control. The tendency coming from the soccer field to kicking a football is to swing across your body. I see too many kickers really wide in their approach and yet... show more

I love technique stuff almost anywhere I find it. I'm not a kicker but very interesting details to me. Great stuff, Shayne.

I like to think of the geometry of PAT and KO being similar. 3 steps back and 2 over on PAT forms same angle as 6 back 4 over, or 9 back 6 over for KO, but can be made more direct/less wide as you endorse. 👍🏻

Actually find that the same angle on FG is too much for KO. There is more momentum and speed so the lateral angle still creates too much lateral vs linear momentum.

A-freaking-men 🙌 Great stuff

@thedawsonzim Exactly!!! Plus, all that angle oftens prevents square shoulders to the target at contact.

Never understood why people go flying across the ball on kickoff rather than down the field. Good stuff

absolutely spot on!

This is great!

What I find as well is that kickers do not spend enough time perfecting their approach distance. Much like long and triple jumpers and pole vaulters who practice this very often and perfect the consistency of their steps, young kickers often have to adjust on the the approach .
