A California startup called ZeroWire Robotics is about to launch Q8botOne — a palm-sized quadruped robot with a radical trick: it has no wires or cable harnesses inside at all. Every component, from its eight programmable Dynamixel actuators to its ESP32 brain and rechargeable battery, mounts directly onto one...

OpenAI's thijs predicts robotics will have its own version of the 3D printing craze, with people buying cheap, open-source robot arms and connecting them to agents. "I can see a world quite soon where, similar to when everyone went and bought 3D printers and ran software, everyone's going to buy plastic, cheaper robot arms that you can clip onto a table, put stuff in front of, and plug them into agents." "The price of classic robotics equipment is thousands of dollars at the moment. This arm I'm using here is a Hugging Face SO-100 robot, which is open source, fully 3D printable, and around $200." "People can just pull up Codex and start controlling robots with it right now."

Building a robot dog? This ESP32 board was made for it. Petoi Biboard is an ESP32-based development board designed for multi-joint robots, with up to 12 PWM servo outputs built right in. It also includes an onboard IMU for balance and motion sensing, wireless connectivity, expansion interfaces and audio features. The BiBoard V1 adds features such as a voice command module, speaker and Raspberry Pi support. What makes it especially interesting is the software ecosystem. The board works with Petoi's open-source OpenCat framework, giving developers a solid starting point for building quadruped robots instead of creating everything from scratch. An ESP32, 12 servos and open-source robotics software. That's a pretty good starting point for building your own robot dog.

btw this robot runs on a fully open source AI framework called Xiaozhi it turns a $8 ESP32 chip into a fully autonomous voice assistant NO expensive cloud servers or high latency wake-word detection and audio streaming happen locally on the chip: > requires only an ESP32-S3, a microphone, and a basic speaker > supports real-time conversational voice interaction > completely open-source and customizable for any DIY robotics project anyone can now build a personal AI companion for the price of a cup of coffee. (github link in the replies)

Don't let the tiny duck fool you… there's a serious robot hiding inside. Meet Microduck from Pollen Robotics. It is a compact biped robot packed with 15 motors, a camera, ToF LiDAR, IMUs, microphones, a speaker and an articulated beak. And the best part? The software is open source. You can create behaviors, train policies in simulation and bring them to the real robot. A tiny duck learning to walk, crouch, grasp objects and recover from falls? That's not just cute. That's a pretty fun robotics platform.

An open source project developing a desktop “Pick-and-Place” machine. (📍All of the source on GitHub) The LumenPnP can be used for assembling electronic components onto circuit boards! The project is getting a huge update with a whole new control box, integrating the pneumatics required to pick the parts, and a custom controller. > The controller uses Marlin firmware as the brain, and controls six stepper motors to move the machine. > It also controls two pneumatic pumps and valves for actually picking up the parts with the machine's nozzle tips. All of the source for the machine are available on GitHub!: Credit: Opulo with the awesome Stephen Hawes 👋 —- Weekly robotics and AI insights. Subscribe free:

This is what open robotics actually looks like! 🔓 I was in Bordeaux, sitting inside Pollen Robotics, and had a chance to play around with their humanoid robot Reachy 2. It’s expressive, modular, and can even bring you coffee, and of course runs Python or Rust. I was talking with Reachy in 3 different languages, tele-operating it and manipulating kitchen stuff, and make it even mimic my gestures. The best part is that there are no locked APIs, or hidden stuff, just an open platform that you can build upon. The connection with Hugging Face makes it super easy to start, as the open source approach allows everyone to contribute, experiment and add their own things. I already ordered his little brother Reachy Mini, let's see what a robotics rookie can do with that robot! 👀 ~~ ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news →

Another win for open-source robotics! 🔥 Hugging Face just released a fully open-source humanoid robot, and you can build one for $2,500. I'm a huge advocate of open-source in robotics space. Why? Robotics is too hard to solve alone. So lowering the entry point is crucial. Also, ROS proved open ecosystems create lasting industry standards. So let's have a look at the new member of humanoids family! LeRobot Humanoid is a 3D-printed, bipedal humanoid platform designed for real robot learning experiments. It's a complete and, buildable robot Anddddd yes, it's a full stack release: → Hardware files, bill of materials and full assembly documentation → Simulation assets and training environments → Runtime tools for calibration and real-world control → Sim-to-real identification pipeline When a part breaks, reprint it. When a design choice doesn't work, modify it and test again. The whole point is fast iteration on real hardware, not treating the robot as a fixed artefact. The timing is not a coincidence. As foundation models for robotics mature, the field desperately needs open physical platforms to train, validate and deploy them on. clem 🤗 LET'S GO!!! ⚠️ THIS ROBOT WOKE ITSELF UP IN A CARDBOARD BOX. NOBODY TOLD IT TO. A robot just unboxed itself. No hands. No engineers. No stage. No keynote. It woke up lying flat on its back inside a foam-lined shipping case in the middle of an ordinary office — desks, a small Christmas tree, nothing staged. Its legs bent upward, then extended, pushing it out of the case. It rolled, braced with its arms, lifted its torso, and stood up to full height right next to the open box it arrived in. Chinese subtitles ran the entire time as the robot calmly narrated its own startup: warning that it was about to move, asking not to be touched, confirming its position, then requesting that the packaging be cleared so it could start work. This is AGIBOT. The company that shipped more than 5,168 humanoid robots in 2025 — more than any competitor globally — and hit its 15,000th unit produced by mid-2026. Not a staged reveal. Not a product launch. Just a robot that ships itself in a box and gets up on its own. The unboxing used to be the boring part. Now it’s the demo.

Open-source robot arm meets hand tracking [📍GitHub below] It is designed with an industrial mindset but built as a 3D-printed desktop system. PAROL6 paired with a LEAP Motion controller is a nice example of how accessible robot teleoperation has become. • Hand motion is streamed to the robot at 100 Hz via UDP • A pneumatic gripper is controlled by simple fist open and close gestures • The entire robot stack is open source, from mechanics to control software Combine that with low-latency hand tracking and you get a very practical platform for learning manipulation, teleoperation, and human-robot interfaces. This kind of setup is great for experimentation, teleop, data collection, and teaching robots by demonstration All without proprietary hardware or locked software. What If Your Desk Robot Could Learn Your Moves? Meet Quaddle, a tiny open-source quadruped built for tinkering. It has just 4 servos, but can run, glide sideways and spin in place. You can program it with Block coding, Python or C++. You can physically guide it through a movement, tap to record, and it can learn and replay the trick. There is also AI conversation, touch interaction, sensors and 3D-printable parts. A fun way to get hands-on with robotics, coding, AI and mechanical design.

Tired of teleoperation? One human video → 1,000s of robot demos. (📍GitHub ) Scaling Robot Data Without Dynamics Simulation or Robot Hardware Real2Render2Real (R2R2R) is a new way to scale robot data without physics simulation or hardware. You take a phone scan + a single monocular human demo. It tracks the motion, renders photorealistic scenes, and generates diverse, robot-agnostic trajectories ready for training. > No teleop, no sim, no robot, just a phone and a video > Train VLA models and diffusion policies directly on the output > Supports multiple robot embodiments with kinematic consistency > 1000s of demos in 1/27 the time of real-world collection Thank you, Max Fu, for sharing!! Project: Paper: Code coming soon: It shows that with the right pipeline, you can scale robot learning data without touching a robot. NEW OPEN SOURCE ROBOT: A cheap, lightweight, and agile platform for locomotion! Called BRIDGE, it is an open-source humanoid robot platform, hardware plus control system. It is an 88 cm, 12.5 kg humanoid with 21 active degrees of freedom that costs roughly $1,500. Its distinguishing idea is that the body and the controller are designed together through a three-stage data-driven pipeline: - anatomical constraints - kinematic criteria - closed-loop dynamic criteria Hence the morphology itself is optimized to preserve human motion quality when the robot executes. It demonstrates teleoperated locomotion, balance-oriented motion (bending, lunging, extreme balance) and highly dynamic motion including back-flips and expressive sequences. I like that the thesis is designing the body and the controller together, not a controller for a fixed body, which inverts how nearly everyone else works; the robot is usually given, usually a Unitree G1, then train a policy on it. At the end of the day, it is a sub-$2K open-source humanoid that does back-flips, the humanoid analogue of the cheap-arm democratization.

Amazon makes a big move in the humanoid game. Amazon has acquired Fauna Robotics, a New York-based humanoid robot startup. The transaction closed last week. Fauna Robotics developed Sprout, a compact and approachable humanoid robot designed for safe, everyday interaction in shared human spaces such as homes, offices, and schools. Standing about 3.5 feet tall, Sprout can walk, grasp objects, interact with people, and even dance. The robot was launched in January this year as a humanoid platform for developers, priced at $50,000. Following the acquisition, Fauna’s roughly 50 employees will join Amazon. The company will continue deploying Sprout to outside researchers, and the startup will retain its name while operating as “Fauna, an Amazon company.” $AMZN
