OMG Students at Free State High School in Kansas say the school advertised the anti-ICE student protest and assured students they wouldn’t face any consequences for staging a walkout in middle of school to scream about ICE. They are enraged that the superintendent of the Marietta City School District in Georgia, along with the principal of Marietta High School, stepped in and stopped students from walking out of class to protest a cause many of them likely know little about. We didn't wanna mark kids down if we understood the entire paper but they had some words misspelled. We didn't want to lower their grades.” “We don't teach phonics because there are exceptions to the rule — I felt something deep within my soul that said this is wrong — So we started this thing, particularly in California, where we have what's called sight words. They're not words that you actually need to decode. They are words that you just have to simply memorize. I want you guys to remember, back in the day, they had those commercials for My Baby Can Read. My baby could not read because my baby could not decode, my baby was simply memorizing what the letters look like together and then memorizing the word” “We used to fail kids — But to avoid looking like racists or looking like they were discriminatory, schools stopped holding kids back because they were noticing that some of the kids who were held back were minority students, namely black and brown students.” “We stopped really doing like honors, advanced.
