"Canada is broken. It's become apparent, through the COVID period, but not limited to COVID, that there's something seriously wrong in this country in all different kinds of ways," he said. "And second, it can't be fixed. It seems like we've arrived at a place in this country, both in terms of our constitutional order and the way we're governed and the way that people think even, that contemplating any serious reform of the way the country works is not on the table," Pardy continued. "So if the country is broken and cannot be fixed, then what else do you got? And what appears to be the case is that in Alberta there's some kind of critical mass of people who understands both those two things ... And therefore they're looking for a different solution, and that solution is to leave. And I agree with them about the necessity for doing that," he added. The Alberta Prosperity Project is currently leading a citizen-led petition drive to reach 177,732 signatures in order to trigger a referendum on independence later this year. Proponents of Alberta's independence cite the province's untapped economic potential through natural resources and unfair treatment by the federal government as key reasons for seeking separation.

A gentle reminder from Bruce Pardy that it was the Stephen Harper government in 2012 that repealed the sections of the Criminal Code that allowed residents to use "whatever force is necessary" against trespassers. AKA Castle Doctrine. Maxime Bernier, who was part of the government at that time, clarifies that in an effort to strengthen gun ownership rights, the law was changed as a compromise to the left as a political solution. In hindsight, this was a compromise that should not have happened, and we would be better off with the old laws that we had.

At the Forever Canada rally in Red Deer, one of Thomas Lukaszuk’s people followed me through the crowd and said he was there to “protect” me. I wasn’t sure how to take that, so we joked about it a little. But then we talked about something serious. A few days earlier in Edmonton, a Forever Canada supporter attacked an Alberta independence supporter who was peacefully waving his flag on the side of the road. The man tried to rip the flag away and pushed him toward traffic. That could have ended very badly. We both agree that that kind of behavior is wrong, and the person responsible should be in jail. That matters. We can disagree about Alberta independence. We can debate equalization, immigration, pipelines, federal control, Ottawa, the constitution, and the future of this province. But political violence has no place in this debate. Peaceful Albertans have every right to wave a flag, support a referendum, ask questions, and advocate for Alberta independence without being assaulted or threatened. But that is where we are at right now in Alberta. Full video:

WATCH | An affiliate member of Boys Dza Mdara says that Resolution Number One argues President Mnangagwa is loved by the people and should remain in power until 2030, even though the Constitution limits his term to 2028. Using the same reasoning, he claims that Paul Tungwarara is also loved by the people and should be co-opted into the ZANU-PF Central Committee. This argument goes against the ZANU-PF Constitution, which does not allow such a move.
