No needs to live that close to shore. I've been in California long enough to see this year after year. Either houses are sliding down hillsides during a rainstorm, landslides, and seaside homes destroyed by powerful waves.

Westward Beach Road, which leads to the beach area near Point Dume, was shut down Saturday due to what officials called “severe” erosion. The roadway was still closed Sunday and remained closed Monday as well. The erosion was caused by high surf that battered the Southern California coast late last week and over the weekend.
