That's a poor video example. The item is thrown forward, slowed by air resistance, enabling the catch. A better example would be a vertical upward throw in a windless area, demonstrating horizontal velocity.

What is the air resistance against the thrown object? What is the weight of that object? Height being thrown to? Speed of vessel while throwing? Thrust force until object left the hand? Try throwing a refrigerator...or a piano... Anybody on Internet = very bad global decision.

This is an edited video, the can is thrown by a man without a beard and is received by another bearded man, and they also slow down the flight of the can.

It was a good throw, the boat was accelerating though.

I mean no, in this case the horizontal velocity is impacted due to air resistance (atmospheric drag). Just not enough time to impact it in this situation, in addition to just very good throw on the guys part.

Friction and air resistance say otherwise.

Not quite. Notice that the can lands several feet behind where the first guy launched it.

It does not in this case; there is the force of drag being applied to projectiles.

Was there a strong wind that helped?

No thats not the demonstration time of flight depends on vertical velocity so depending upon the height of the projectile the can may falls behind or infront of that stern

Except he threw it in front of him. Not straight up.

Sooooo one guy threw the can up and also forward not completely vertically up, and the other dude in the rear caught it by even having to bend out of the boat. How exactly does that demonstrate anything? Should have just flung it vertically and catch it himself xd

This is a bad example. The guy at the front of the boat threw it up and forwards. The boat maintained speed and the guy at the back of the boat caught it. To be a good example it would need to be in a vacuum.

Such a bad example, and foam going backwards when he opens the can is a counterexample. So many variables here.

He should’ve thrown it underhand so we can see him(moving forward and launching something upwards) while the can continues to move in the same direction as the boat while in the air, even though it was thrown upward and not forward
