A different world was what I was thinking about. I found this video comparing the OG versus 4K render.

Apparently 4K upscaling is basically using AI to fill in pixels on low-resolution videos.

What I fear about all this upscaling is it may be used to deliberately confuse people in future, like a Mandela effect. Anything they want to change in a movie can be changed and we'd be made to believe it was never there to start with. Memory wiping. Reality warping. Feels wrong

Yea this is definitely AI, but not all 4k upscaling is necessarily AI. Like he said, you need enough of the original data to be able to up the resolution. This video has 2 different things happening: the upscaler is increasing the resolution, but it's paired turn an AI that's

The scaling went from sinbad to sinworse

I’m OK with old school shit looking like old school shit

Why not give the viewer the option to watch either the original format or the shitty AI upscaled format?

Netflix isn’t the only one doing it. THE FBI tried using upscaled stills from a video to claim Kyle Rittenhouse had held a rifle up towards people in 2020. He didn’t. He was found not guilty. The STATE is doing the same with fake footage and AI upscaling in UTAH, right now.

It’s almost like it’s a different world

It was done half assed. You can’t go from 320 or 480 up to 4k without serious consequences. Because 75 percent of what you’re looking at is a ‘best guess’ based off of the other 25 percent. It was also filmed in 4:3 NTSC, which means interlaced when scanned. I can tell you that even if you take every appropriate step to upscale what is essentially 480i to modern 4k, the video will be plagued with issues like this. They should’ve done like what Star Trek TNG did. Upscale to 1080p and be done.

Both slop and anti-intellectualism hit that universe: in this clip the reference to Joan of Arc has been taken out of streaming. Netflix also removed the long, awkward pause from their argument, which reflects the 'frictionless' present

it’s AI and it’s almost impossible to watch. i tried and got so weirded out by their eyes and distracted by the background text not even being real letters

Its a bastardization of the original work and should not be valid in any way

I do even trust the show on Netflix now. Or Netflix. If I’m watching it for the first time how would I know that’s all they’re changing.

This is why tubi is the best. Those motherfuckers just upload anything and it’s beautiful

I’m amazed any person over the age of 18 could ever watch these kids show, even for the upscale.

Maybe this explains Mandela effects in a simulation universe? Some one is upscaling us heheh

My favorite part about this video is that it was all done on console.

Knowing it. Thinking about it. And watching does feel weird… Kinda almost like a Truman Show type of feel of that makes sense… Like this is real, but it isn’t real, but it is real… lol

I’m your age, it does not bother me because it’s a show like Differnet World and not something that needs 4K but to have it in HD on modern TVs makes sense.

Definitely gonna start changing history even better now.. buy your hard copy books people..

And that's how they're gonna erase everything. "Fahrenheit 451" seems soft now.

I want to know where he got that Commodore 64 shirt.. I want one now!😀

Meh, give it 6 more months and the technology will be there.

So it’s a different world than a Different World

I agree! Streaming platforms should tell viewers about its AI upscaling especially for newer generations that do not know better about older shows

I’ve noticed 2 of my favorite 5 shows that have been upscaled been changing jokes, changing shirts deemed offensive, stuff like the joke mention of Joan of Arc was removed, etc. I have collected 3184 DVDs and blu rays thus far. 739 VHS and 28 laser discs. Fuck that licensure bs.

Talk about first world problems

I hate it. The whole point of revisiting old shows is for nostalgic purposes. I want to see things of the past or remember persons, places, and things of the past. Ai takes away from that by not placing the original names etc into the show. This is terrible.

The show was originally recorded at 720x480 standard definition. Essentially DVD quality. So Netflix could have easily streamed it in its native resolution like they did many other shows. For whatever reason, they chose to upscale this show and give it the AI treatment.

That’s an awful show to get this deep

nflx is so dumb that they wont even use computer vision for its ai upscaling but its a multibillion dollar company lol they are just messing with people

I was watching A different world a few months ago and I thought was tripping a little but then Jadas braids go from braids to dreads to whatever back to dreads and that’s when I knew! AI for sure

The implication of this that is concerning to me is the use of interpolation and up scaling in court proceeding. From what I have seen there has not been really any universal rules on this and I am not sure without the defense really needing to bring in experts on this and absolutely draining the defense’s wallets on experts that the average juror will be sophisticated enough to understand that the AI is just making up pixels. When you zoom in on a security camera image that was low res in the first place, and zoom to a portion that took up 25% of the original image to a 4k image those pixels came from where?
