Why is half of the ship black and half of it is silver colored? that's because the bottom as seen from orbital entry is, has a heat shield on it. So the black there is the heat shield and then the core structure of the rocket is a special alloy of stainless steel and that's where you see the sort of shiny silver parts are stainless steel. The reason for steel over aluminum is that the heat of atmospheric entry and the heat of the rocket engines is enough to easily melt aluminum but steel is much more resilient against both a sand heating, but especially the re entry heating. And you don't have to paint it, which is actually very difficult at to paint a large object that is going through cry genetic cycles and have the paint stay on. It's quite challenging

"Particularly if you go for a high-strength specialized carbon fiber that can handle cryogenic oxygen, it's roughly 50 times the cost of steel." Then progress stalled. The autoclaves needed to cure the resin had to outsize every autoclave on Earth, and the team couldn't even produce a clean barrel section without wrinkles. Musk, watching the Mars timeline slip: "At this rate, we're never going to get to Mars. So we've got to think of something else." So he asked the question nobody at SpaceX had asked: "What about steel?" It became known as the cryogenic stainless flip. Musk, who had already shipped Falcon 9 in aluminum-lithium, broke with the textbook. "When you look at the material properties of stainless steel, full-hard, strain hardened stainless steel, at cryogenic temperature the strength to weight is actually similar to carbon fiber." Starship ran on cryogenic methane and oxygen. The airframe lived at temperatures that flipped steel ahead of carbon fiber. "You could smoke a cigar while welding stainless steel." The Cybertruck is finally here, I am even considering buying one after reading about it, and after being driven around in Teslas in Europe and America, they are pretty cool. The stainless steel body is uniquely weird, one wonders whether finger prints would show, what will happen to the scratches on the stainless body? The Cybertruck's stainless steel body is designed to be durable and resist corrosion, so it is certainly good for Africa, and with the top of the range costing US$69,900 and the lower end at US$39,900, that is a pretty good buy. Now of course the motoring experts will tell us that it is ugly and a tonne of turn off stuff, but Teslas sell themselves, people love them because of their innovative features. If I ever buy one, it is because it is a battery car and it can go into rough terrain and live to the story. It is a funky car that you can drive in New York and be able to take to Chamapango in Murewa. What are your thoughts?

This is what I did for 40 years. I formed engine nuts/bolts for jet aircraft. This machine is making a 12 point bolt made of stainless steel. It forges the metal at 16 tons per square inch. I designed and worked with engineers to make the dies. The punches. This is only a 2 die header. When you get up to the 5 die headers, you are in a different category. When forming Titanium, you have to heat the wire to 1200 degrees to form it. This is what I did.
