“A Forest” by The Cure was released as a single 46 years ago today.

Robert Smith didn’t just record a classic, he invented a whole world with “A Forest”. That hypnotic The Cure bassline is still the gold standard for getting lost in the post-punk darkness since 1980. 🌲🎸 🤔 Fun fact: To get that "ghostly" guitar sound, Smith used a broken amplifier he found in the studio's trash. The engineer wanted to toss it, but Robert clung to it because he said it sounded like a wounded animal screaming through the fog. 🌫️🔊 Did you know? 🤯

That means I was in Boots 46 years ago buying the 12”.

THE bass sound

Released in 1980, and possibly the best pop song of that decade.

This sounded nothing like what was popular at the time. I can only imagine how this sounded to someone hearing for the first time in 1980.

46? No way. Already? Noo way. Was i 2 years old? Nooo way.

@SerpicoFranco I still live this song so much 🥰🥰 I didn’t know it was that old

My favourite Cure song

46 years ago. Man, I absolutely jammed to this when I was a kid. Great memories.

@3nilorak Un grand oui ! Poke @chrismen67

Bass and drums. Good fingering and good banging. Move on😂😎 The Cure.

My favorite cut by them.

Post-Punk is king

I prefer the Behemoth version… 😜

I bought it and still have it somewhere. What's frightening is it was 46 years ago.

Meh, mid. My personal favorite:

@MrSaratoga I always loved A Forest, along with Primary, from the same pivotal era. Essential Cure.

They are copying molchat doma

Still frightens me to death but I love it!!

I was just listening to Paranoid, Black Sabbath. That album was produced in 1970 and its as good as music gets. It's incredible what music was produced.

Ufffffff ……excelente!!!

Demais, demais, demais!!

My favorite Cure track!
