OK, to confirm what David Moss posted the other night, ASS has definitely improved. It is way more responsive, starting immediately upon button press from the app, and moving confidently through its surroundings. While still limited to 6mph, each test initiated and completed with no delays or aborts. And it turned heads! Watch the pedestrians at around 1:18 start gawking and taking pictures! 🔥 Also, the honking and cursing you hear at 1:57 were not related to my car. You can see a motorcycle go through the intersection and another car pulled out in front of him. 😂 Great update Arek Sredzki and Tesla AI !!

If any other auto company shipped what Tesla just put in my Cyberbeast this morning, it would be a MAJOR launch event, like with a stage set up, a 40-minute presentation with people flying in around the world to see how amazing this technology is. Tesla on the other hand just sent it to my truck overnight with an over-the-air software update. I downloaded FSD (Supervised) v14.3.8 this morning and made Grok do all of this while my Cyberbeast drove itself. Watch the video, if you think I’m lying. I had Grok: 1/ add a destination 2/ add a second stop 3/ start FSD (just had to press a button) 4/ turn my AC to 68 5/ turn the seat coolers on medium 6/ then change the seat cooler to high 7/ play a song 8/ change to a different song 9/ open the glovebox (had to enter my pin) 10/ close the glovebox 11/ tell me the weather 12/ play Elon’s song 13/ change my destination to San Francisco mid-drive 14/ pick a Supercharger bc I was almost out of battery ALL with my hands and feet off the steering wheel and pedals… Here’s exactly how it went. I said hey Grok, take me to the Pruneridge Golf Club closest to me, then the Starbucks near there. It set both. I started FSD with a press of a button. Then I just kept talking to it. It was kind of hot in my Cybertruck, so I asked Grok to set the temperature to 68 and cool. Done. Then I said put the seat coolers on medium… it turned it on. Then I said change the seat coolers to high… it bumped it up. I said to play a song from Future… it put a song on Spotify that wasn’t what I was looking for. So I changed it. I said to play a song from Lil Baby. That was the one. Then I asked Grok to open my glovebox. It wouldn’t do it until I put my PIN in on the screen, which I actually respect for safety. I typed in my PIN… it opened it. Then I said close the glovebox… it closed. I asked what the weather was… it said it was sunny in Santa Clara, high 85, low 64. Then I said play Don’t Doubt ur Vibe, I think that’s Elon… it pulled up Don’t Doubt ur Vibe by Elon “EDM” Musk on Spotify. Halfway there I changed my mind on where I wanted to go. I said actually take me to San Francisco first and that I might have to stop at a Supercharger bc I’m almost out of battery. Grok looked at my truck sitting at 14% battery life with 38 miles of range. And knowing San Francisco is 39 miles away it found a Tesla supercharger for me to charge along the way. I said thanks Grok. A Tesla is starting to feel like an AI on wheels that can drive, listen, understand what I want, control the cabin, change my plans, and solve problems for me in real time… almost like another person is there with me, except that intelligence is embodied in the car itself. And the wildest part is I didn’t buy anything new! I went to sleep with one Cyberbeast and woke up with a more capable one. That’s why I think people still underestimate what happens when Tesla combines FSD, Grok, its vehicles, and over-the-air software into one system. That car sitting in your driveway doesn’t stay the same car. It keeps gaining new abilities. It keeps getting smarter. And often, you literally wake up to a major release that changes what the car can do. Any other automaker would have put this on a stage. Tesla shipped it while I was sleeping. Mind blown…

CBC's David Common off to a bad start in his new role as morning show anchor Continues with the "Canadians don't want" the F-35 after getting to travel down to Luke Air Force Base in Arizona to see the training operations Common says Canada is "stuck with at least 16 of them" "Buying more of those F35s which are more sophisticated, or get the slightly less sophisticated but still very capable Swedish built Gripen jet costs less money." Slightly? "Buying more of those F35s which are more sophisticated, or get the slightly less sophisticated but still very capable Swedish built Gripen jet costs less money." Leaves out the fact it was by far and away the winning pick of the CAF over the Gripen. Leaves out the shared NORAD obligations that would be undermined by the lesser capability That Frank Graves poll Commons references didn't explain the lesser capabilities of the Gripen to those Canadians polled but when did details like that matter to Ekos or CBC? More anti-American elbowz BS.. on the same morning of obsessive ICE news, Grammy Awards ICE protests, Groundhog Day Punxsutawney Phil and more, all coming from evil America! Just finished listening to . 's break down the spam attack vector and what he lays out is disturbing, not just technically but philosophically. Here’s the short version. Some entities are exploiting a loophole in Bitcoin’s design. They are not using inscriptions, not using op_return, but instead creating fake pubkeys to store arbitrary data on-chain. It sits in a kind of sweet spot. Not big enough to trigger current filters in Core, but damaging enough to bloat the UTXO set and push out regular node runners. And somehow the conversation has shifted. Instead of defending Bitcoin’s core purpose, some dev voices are floating the idea that we should work with the spammers. That maybe if we remove the remaining filters, the abuse will become more manageable. This is a bizarre and dangerous line of thinking. Bitcoin was never built to serve as a data dumpster. It was built to be money. Sound, verifiable, scarce. When we start redesigning Bitcoin to appease people who are actively trying to harm it, we lose the very thing that gave it credibility. Mechanic calls it out plainly. The same people who claim filters do nothing are suddenly demanding we remove them to help the spammers. It is a contradiction. A bait-and-switch. Break the protocol, then use the damage as leverage to weaken it further. This is not how strong systems survive. If we bend Bitcoin every time someone finds a way to abuse it, then it is no longer something we can trust. It becomes something we constantly have to defend through negotiation. I did not opt into Bitcoin to negotiate with attackers. I opted in because it was resilient. Because it does not ask for permission. Because it stands firm even when pressure mounts. Mechanic is not just pointing out a technical issue. He is warning us that the cultural drift inside Bitcoin is real. If we let short-term convenience take precedence over long-term integrity, we will get something very different than what we came here for. Watch the interview. Think about where this path leads.

Wolfers: This is the most interventionist government of my lifetime. It’s the least conservative government of my lifetime. When you are the richest country in the world, maybe you are not the ones who should be tearing down your existing institutions. That’s usually what countries that are lagging behind try to do. But that’s exactly what this president is doing. This won’t show up in next quarter’s GDP. What it will show up as, a decade from now, is companies that were never founded. Entrepreneurs who couldn’t afford to go to business school. Immigrants with great ideas who stayed in their home countries instead. Whatever the next generation’s Google or OpenAI is, it may not be invented—or it may not happen on our soil. We’ll never see that absence directly. But our kids will feel it. They’ll feel it as lost opportunities: businesses never started, jobs that never existed, technologies never developed, and ways of creating a greener, safer, more prosperous future that simply aren’t possible.

🚨NEW: Adam Curry nicely breaks down how Stablecoins work, Tether, and the likely future of the US Digital Dollar system. (Worth a watch if you don't know about this subject) "A stablecoin is a digital dollar thats pegged to the dollar so it's always a dollar. It's already being used all over the internet and the world. The only reason it's worth a dollar is because the stablecoin company that creates it has debt and paper to back it up. They buy America's debt, they buy treasury bonds or T-bills that pay a dividend that gives interest, and for each dollar they've bought in treasury they can create stablecoins. If you look at the company Tether they've bought more of the US debt than most countries. They have $160B worth of US debt. For each of those dollars they have a stablecoin. There's like 50 people in the company. They have $160B at 4% interest annually, they're making BANK just for holding this debt. I think that President Trump is very smart in seeing that we can flood the world with our stablecoin and we get a 2-for-1. We create a dollar of debt and we create another dollar that can be used all over the world as a reserve currency and that should result in some new monetary system that we need to come up with to have our dollar valued properly but also still remain the reserve currency and remain a strong export country. We don't make anything that we sell abroad, we can't all serve each other burgers and fries -- we have to build something. All of that went overseas. There's something big coming, and it has to happen. Trump is a meta guy. He's going to re-finance the country. It'll be digital and he Bitcoiners don't like this because they want Bitcoin to be the one currency that everyone uses but its now more like a digital gold that's much easier to move around. It's useful but it isn't money or currency the way it was originally intended -- but it is still very important and will be part of the US' strategic reserve. It looks to me like Stablecoins and Tether in particular will be the future of the US dollar payments. A lot of people on the right are afraid of being controlled on a grid because you can stop stablecoins -- but it seems there's no way of getting around some form of a digital dollar. I still like Bitcoin as a backup to protect from that control." Great breakdown Adam Curry - curryirc.com

BREAKING: Trump SCORES MAJOR VICTORY Announcing CEASEFIRE Between IRAN and ISRAEL President Trump just pulled off what critics swore was impossible—a total ceasefire between Israel and Iran, and without a single American casualty. In this video, I break down exactly what happened, how Trump dismantled Iran’s nuclear ambitions through strategic coordination with Israel, and why this isn’t World War III—it’s Middle East peace through strength. The haters who said Trump would start endless wars owe him a massive apology. I called it from day one—we move through Israel, and Trump knew exactly what he was doing. From obliterating Iran’s capabilities to setting the stage for long-term peace, this is a masterclass in leadership. Watch until the end for my full analysis and a mic-drop message from Trump himself.

For those of you that don’t know, I love chicken wings. They’re one of my favorite foods, and I usually have them about once a week. For a long time, though, I never liked the way I felt after eating wings out at restaurants. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it until I realized that almost everywhere you get wings from, they’re cooked in some form of seed oil, usually soybean oil. That stuff is terrible for inflammation and can cause a lot of issues over time. On top of that, most ranches, blue cheeses, and dipping sauces are also loaded with seed oils. So I made the switch to doing this at home as much as possible, and honestly, I prefer it. I feel way better after eating them. No sluggish feeling. No feeling like I just ate something bad for my body. I use organic chicken wings from Sprouts, usually just over three pounds, around 3.2 pounds. I keep them thawed out, preheat my air fryer for 10 minutes at 400 degrees, then cook the wings for about 50 to 55 minutes, depending on the batch. I toss them halfway through and make sure they cook as evenly as possible. Once they’re done, I coat them with Primal Kitchen avocado oil buffalo sauce, add pink Himalayan sea salt and garlic powder, and toss everything together. I’ll dip them in Primal Kitchen avocado oil ranch and pair it with a big salad. Today I had chia seeds and guacamole with it while breaking a 26 hour fast, before going right back into another 24 hour fast. I also use a ceramic free air fryer because of the issues with coatings, and it’s been a great switch for me. If you eat wings out a lot, just be aware. Almost all fast food places and most sit down restaurants are cooking with seed oils. When you start eating more home cooked meals, you really do notice the difference over time. It's feeding time!

The Friday before the 1987 crash, Martin Zweig went on this show and told America the market was about to break. Ten years later they sat him down again, the week the Dow just got hit. April 11, 1997. Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser. Zweig. Two Hollands. A value-fund manager from Babson. No thumbnails. No “I told you so.” A room full of people who have to keep money working after a bad week. Your feed treats every red candle like a verdict. This episode treats it like weather. A drop does not cancel the mechanism. It tests it. Retention is what you still own after the week you hated. Direction is whether that money has a place to go besides cash. Multiplication is the decision to leave it there while the panel argues. Expansion is having more than one place the next dollar can come from so one ugly tape cannot wipe the map. Most people watch a selloff and start over at mechanism one. The men at this table had already decided, years earlier, which mechanism they were running. Watch their faces when Rukeyser asks what they will do next. That is the whole lecture.

🚨 Former commanding general of the US Army Pacific Charles Flynn says we've been neglecting a key component of the Taiwan invasion threat. "In the United States, we look at the map and we see blue. We see an ocean…and we say, well, we can solve this problem with more ships, more subs, more airplanes, more jets, more precision guide munitions, more satellites." While many experts fixate on the Chinese navy as the "center of gravity" for any Taiwan assault, Charles Flynn disagrees. "My view is you can't invade Taiwan with the Chinese Navy and the Chinese Air Force. You actually have to deliver an invasion force, and that is its Chinese army. That's the PLA." "You've got to watch the PLA army, because it will take time for them to actually move from their garrisons to the coast, load those vessels, and get across. You're not going to see and have that kind of time with air power and naval power from the Chinese. There'll be some indicators, but when they start moving that army, then there's a problem. Things need to stop very quickly. …What keeps me up at night is their ability to actually pull that off in 96 hours. …Anything that we can do to slow down that timeline, feed doubt, sow paranoia and introduce new dilemmas to the Chinese leadership--then we are on a stronger footing by way of deterrence and denying them the ability to think that they could pull that off." (And yes, for those wondering, Charles is General Mike Flynn’s brother, with a distinguished career of his own).

.The Daily Signal’s Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell: “Mr. President, are you encouraging our allies in the Gulf to be more involved in the Iran operation?” President Trump “Say it.” Trump: “Are you encouraging our allies in the Gulf to be more involved in the Iran operation?” Trump: “Yeah, I mean, a little bit, but more — more NATO. I think our Gulf allies have been pretty good, to be honest with you. UAE has been hit so hard. I think they got hit by 1,400 rockets, shot them all out of the air with our great — with our great Patriot missiles. Think of it. They shot 100 missiles at one of our aircraft carriers, the Abraham Lincoln, one of the biggest ships in the world, actually. And out of 101 missiles shot, every single one of them was knocked down in the sea. Think of that. Think of what that means. 101 missiles. Highly sophisticated, very fast missile shot — out of 101, all 101 were shot down. And now, for the most part, lie at the bottom of the sea. Pretty amazing, right? Pretty amazing. Our military is amazing. Pete, you know the attack I’m talking about recently, 101 shot. I said, wow, I saw that. You can see we have sort of pretty good equipment that we see. It’s called the red line. Those red lines were thick, right? I said, that’s a lot. And then we saw them one by one, just get shot. And these guys who do the shooting, the coolest cucumbers ever, you know, most people, you don’t have a lot of time when a missile is going at 2,500 miles an hour, I don’t care how far away it is. You don’t have a lot of time. But I watched them — I watched them sit down and think. Great students. MIT’s a lot of — MIT’s a lot of guys like this, and not as much into the muscle as they are this one right here and amazing to watch them perform under great pressure because they have a matter of seconds to do it. If they don’t do it properly, it’s a big problem, you know, because these were powerful — these were very powerful missiles coming. And so, a lot of people choke. They don’t choke. These guys don’t choke. They’re the best in the world. We have the best in the world.”

.The Daily Signal’s Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell: “Mr. ＢＬＡＺＥＯＦＦＵＲＹ I slam down on the little shrimp with the full, earth-shaking tonnage of my colossal bulk. His puny frame flattens like a stomped roach beneath me, and a vicious snap cuts the air as his lungs cough up a sad, broken yelp. It’s fuckin’ wild how his skinny, fragile build sets my blood ablaze—like a brittle twig trembling beneath my hulking, boulder-like chest, begging to be crushed. My pecs squash him flat, mashing his mug into the mat with skull-shattering might. I smack my cock against the twin curves of his ass and grind it awake along their sculpted swell. My hips pound his dainty backside, even as he squirms, tensing and trying to buck me off. His pathetic fuckin’ resistance melts like butter under my sheer dominance—nothing but a sorry little twitch-fest. My junk roars to life faster than a souped-up dragster. I’m a goddamn bulldozer rolling over this fuckin’ worthless speck. I jerk up a couple inches and smash back down hard. A nasty crack rips from his guts under my brutal hammering, but all he’s got left is a faint gasp as the air ditches him. I drag myself slow, pulverizing him into the mat with every fiber of my strength, and growl in his ear: “Wrestle, runt!” I hoist my bulk up a hair, and the wimp starts thrashing under me. He knows I get off on his flailing fight—I crave those desperate, doomed swings. His mousy muscles got no shot at budging me, but even half-dead, he’s hell-bent on lighting my fuse. His tiny bum rubs my dick like mad, sparking like a match on rough timber. My member’s pulsing, primed to pay him back. Wielding my titanic bulk like a sledgehammer, I unleash a savage pounding on him. My gut slams him down with crushing weight. Every hit’s meaner than the last, sinking him deeper into the mat. His wriggling quits cold, his body caving to my relentless beatdown. The hardest blows grind his bones to dust, but he’s silent now—just ragged breaths forced out by my strikes. Conscious? Who gives a shit. After a dozen ruthless smacks, I flop onto him. His frail frame is scorching from the thrashing I dished out. My gargantuan mass locks him in place—no squirming, no breathing, nada. He’s mine to break, and my sheer heft could snuff him out for good. But I ain’t done—my cock’s howling for more. I peel off him. The shrimp wheezes, clawing for air, fumbling his wrecked shell. I give him a sec to pull it together—the grand finale’s coming. He knows a stiff corpse won’t rev my engine. I hiss in his ear: “Flip over!” Battered to hell, he still spins onto his back like a whipped little shit. He wouldn’t dream of crossing me—fear and heat tangle in his eyes as my monstrous shadow looms. I reward his obedience by slamming down full-force. His chest plate cracks, ribs splinter. My meat smacks his steel-hard cock with a loud thwack. The twisted little freak loves it. I’ve flattened him helpless again, and my shaft drinks in his agony. I grind it against his dick, mashing his lean torso with my thick, beefy bulk. His ribcage buckles as I lean in hard. His feebleness and frailty stoke my sadistic blaze. “Wrestle!” I snarl, easing up an inch to let him fan my flames. He tries to fight back—he knows every twitch stokes my fire. He’s desperate to keep me happy; he’s seen what happens to uppity punks who don’t. He don’t want that smoke. His beat-up, aching husk battles to please me. He’s so goddamn insignificant—my junk’s a live grenade. The big finish is close. I start ramming him for real with my cock, fuckin’ banging him into oblivion. My loins grind into his core with full throttle. Our tools collide, sizzling like live wires. My titan’s bulk pounds and smashes the runt under my brutal girth, raging harder each blow. His flopping fades fast, my crushing hits paralyzing him. He’s got no choice but to bow to my beastly fury. His shell cracks under my onslaught—too flimsy to take it. Bones groan and give, sinking with my blows. He’s gotta be out cold, but his stiffy’s trembling, ready to blow. I dive at him with unhinged rage, ready to tear him apart. His delicate rig shatters for good, bones snapping like brittle straw. My cock erupts like a damn volcano, and his tags along. Our gear’s drenched, dripping with heat. I unload again with feral power, roaring deep from my gut, and collapse, winded, on his smashed-up wreck. Our juices meld through the fabric like molten lava rivers. I sprawl over him, catching my breath. He’s pitifully small and breakable, the little shit. The shrimp’s out, his pretty face calm—miles from the fuckin’ hell he just ate. He nailed his role and served me right. I growl low, a sated beast’s rumble: “Good boy, you little fuck.”

🚨 BREAKING: An American walked out of a Taliban dungeon after 2 YEARS… and the numbers tell a story no one can ignore. 🇺🇸 George Glezmann, a 65-year-old Delta Air Lines mechanic from Atlanta, went to Afghanistan as a tourist in December 2022. He never came home. Taliban intelligence snatched him off the streets of Kabul. No charges. No trial. Just darkness. For more than two years he sat in a windowless cell. His wife Aleksandra begged. His health faded — a tumor on his face, vision failing, sores on his body. The calendar kept turning through an entire administration. Then the clock flipped. President Trump took office in January 2025. Within TWO MONTHS — no prisoner swap, no high-profile trade — U.S. hostage envoy Adam Boehler and former envoy Zalmay Khalilzad sat down in Kabul with Taliban officials and Qatari mediators. The Taliban called it a “goodwill gesture.” Glezmann boarded a plane to Doha, then home. He said it himself: “I was held captive for two years during the Biden administration. President Trump freed me in two months without a prisoner exchange.” This is the third American released from Taliban custody since January. One more is still believed to be inside Afghanistan. A mechanic. A tourist. A husband. Two years stolen. Two months to get him back. Watch the clip. Let it land. 🔥

Bitcoin hashrate dropped ~20% in just a few days. Because extreme winter weather across the US punished weak mining operations. Here’s what actually breaks miners during a polar vortex (and how operators prepare) 👇 HOW WINTER BREAKS MINERS Cold doesn’t usually kill miners while they’re running. It kills them when: • machines cool down too fast • airflow isn’t controlled • miners restart while still cold Most damage happens during restarts and boot-ups, not steady-state hashing. HOW OPERATORS PROTECT HASHRATE 1️⃣ Control temperature swings (not just temperature) Rapid changes are the enemy. • Insulate containers and buildings to slow heat loss • Limit cold air intake until miners are hashing and warming themselves • Keep container lids closed during startup • Use hot-air feedback to warm machines gradually Goal: warm up slowly, cool down slowly. 2️⃣ Don’t let airflow work against you Airflow that’s great in summer can kill you in winter. Watch out for: • External fans pushing freezing air inside • Chimney effects that pull heat out too fast • Wide-open intakes during startup Common fixes: • Slow or pause intake fans during warm-up • Disrupt chimney effects temporarily • Use finer dust filters to reduce cold airflow Once machines are stable, airflow can come back. 3️⃣ Be careful when rebooting hashing miners Reboots in freezing temperatures are where most costly mistakes happen. Safer approach: • Reboot during the warmest part of the day • Do it one rack at a time • Keep lower shelves running so rising heat protects upper ones Rushing reboots saves minutes now and costs days later. 4️⃣ Booting miners that were offline is different For curtailment, demand response, or long downtime: ⚠️ Do NOT boot if boards are below 0°C What to do instead: • Warm machines gradually • Monitor ambient temperature inside the facility • Physically check miners if possible Cold hardware doesn’t fail immediately. It fails later. 5️⃣ Use firmware to avoid cold-start mistakes With Braiins OS, operators rely on: • Pre-heat to bring chips closer to target temperature before hashing • Fan speed vs chip temperature to confirm miners are actually warming up If fans are low and chip temperature isn’t rising, stop and warm miners more. Booting too early is the fastest way to lose hardware. 6️⃣ Network outages can freeze miners fast When internet drops, miners stop hashing and cool down quickly. Two common safeguards: • Multiple pool fallback URLs • A drain pool as a last resort to keep miners hashing and warm Drain pools burn power, but they can prevent far more expensive cold restarts. ❄️ THE COLD TRUTH Winter punishes poor preparation and rushed decisions. We’ve been running 2+ GW of live hashpower on Braiins OS through harsh winters. The patterns repeat every year. For the full deep dive, read the complete Polar Vortex guide on our blog. Mining is hard. Braiins OS is built for this.

.President Donald J. Trump: We have more money being invested in the United States than at any time in the history of our country. More Americans are working today than ever before. This week, it was announced that inflation saw its largest monthly decline in more than 6 years. The Tax Cuts in our Great Big Beautiful Bill are saving hardworking families thousands and thousands of dollars, with provisions like No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, and No Tax on Social Security for our great seniors—along with the interest deduction on a loan used to purchase your car–but only if it is made in America, and 100% expensing for our job-creating businesses. Our stock markets are at their all-time highs, and your 401ks, pensions, and retirement accounts are setting records day after day. For years, we paid the highest price for prescription drugs anywhere in the world. Now, we pay the lowest price under my Most Favored Nation policy, because I was able to get the rest of the world to act responsibly. Drug prices are coming down by 70, 80, and even 90 percent at this will ultimately reduce the cost of healthcare dramatically. And, with Trump Accounts, every child in America now has access to a tax-free investment account to save for their future—and billions of dollars are being put in by companies and individuals to take care of our children, so that at age 18, they will have potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars, and get off to a great start in life. Chris Cuomo just took a shot at President Trump live on air, insinuating that he didn’t care about addicts and that the administration’s new program to fight addiction was not nearly enough. RFK Jr. cut through the narrative like a scalpel, defending Trump’s character and exposing the difference between presidential action and empty Biden-era “solutions.” CUOMO: “Not you, of course, but the president, had been very judgy about these populations in campaigns past, but the amount of money, $100 million, as you know, there are many states that spend a lot more than that every year on these issues.” “Why isn’t it more funded if it’s such a priority?” KENNEDY: “We’re giving almost a billion dollars to the states in block grants to do the same thing.” “Streets is just a part of the program, much bigger program.” Then Kennedy shut down Cuomo’s characterization of the president. KENNEDY: “By the way, you know, the president — I’ve heard different things from the president.” “The president has been extremely compassionate about addiction. He’s talked about it in his own family. He’s talked about the plague that affects other Americans.” “About the calamities that people experience when they lose a son or a daughter to this disease.” “And so I’ve heard him talk about it with great compassion and feeling and he’s the one who is behind this drive to try to solve the problem for the first time.” “The Biden administration solution was harm reduction, which means basically managing the decline, providing needles and safe places to shoot up.” “At one point, apparently even there was a proposal by my predecessor to buy crack pipes for people.” “These are not solutions.”

In less than 3 years, LIV Golf’s production team have made a big impact on golf broadcasts, constantly pushing boundaries and bringing in new innovations. These include the first ever “drone tracer”, “Any Shot Any Time”, the ability to watch a live feed of any group on an app and the “LIV Line”, among others. SVP of Worldwide Productions, James Watson spoke with Talk Birdie To Me about the journey: “I used to spend early mornings watching golf with my dad and we’d be trying to watch Greg Norman and he might have been in 7th, but you’re not seeing a lot of him. Or in more modern times Jason Day, Adam Scott, Cam Smith playing on the PGA Tour. If they’re outside of the top 5, and their names aren’t Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson, you did not get to see them. “So that thinking helped shape how we wanted to produce golf in a way that the fans could consume. It was about graphics, it was about the amount of shots we could put on air compared to other broadcasts and then it evolved into second screen experience. How could you leverage your on site resources to deliver a product where if fans are not getting what they want on the screen, they can then go to their iPad and very easily follow along like they do on the Masters app.” In order to provide this level of coverage, LIV Golf have more than 60 cameras, including 2 drones and 11 handhelds, with tracers. They also have more than 200 crew, from all over the world, to make sure every shot is covered with all the graphics you’ve seen on the broadcast. I never really understood what went into delivering a product like this, but I got to visit the production truck at Valderrama in 2023 and it was very impressive to see it first hand. But despite their innovations, James says they’re always trying to improve: “Any product needs to constantly advance with the times. For me, LIV’s still in the audience capture mode. So we constantly need to refine ourselves, target what works, what doesn’t work, are we seeing more viewership? “The thing I always come back to is, this is the best participation era in the last 30 years in Australia and in the US. You’re seeing more people playing golf, but you’re not seeing that translation into live viewership and you need to ask yourself why? “I think the golf product as a whole needed disruption and we’re proud we’ve done that at LIV. To come in and disrupt in the same way World Series cricket did with Kerry Packer and David Hill in the late 70s.” Personally, I think James and the team are doing a great job, which I think has been validated by how much the PGA Tour broadcasts have improved over the last 2 years to keep up. A rising tide lifts all boats. Link to the TalkBirdieToMe episode with James Watson in the comments ⬇️

Technically is dead; long live Technically Some bittersweet news for you all today: after 5 years writing Technically and more than 100 posts about everything from APIs to data warehouses to Facebook DNS hacks, today I am (for the most part) shutting the Technically Substack down… …and replacing it with Technically 2.0, an amazing software product I’ve been working with David Krevitt on for the past 6 months. But first… For a newsletter that started with an innocent tweet while I was bored in Haneda airport, this thing has come pretty far. 70K+ subscribers, yada yada. But you’re here for the story so here it is. It was December 2019, I was traveling before moving to SF to start at Retool, and like I said, I was bored. Late 2019 – what an amazing time to start a newsletter! There weren’t that many of them out there. And then came 2020. Everyone was stuck at home with nothing to do but sign up for more and more Substacks, and talk about them on the internet. Every day, another one of your friends was announcing a newsletter on Twitter. It was the golden era, no doubt, and many people like me combined hard work, a good idea, and the old fashioned “right place right time” streak of luck to build a really nice Substack business. I’ll never forget the day Ben Thompson referenced Technically in Stratechery. I must have gotten 50 texts from friends. Everyone was reading Stratechery at the time…it was like becoming a made man. There was this almost communal vibe in the air with these newsletters. Everyone was reading the same stuff, talking about the same stuff. It was a scene is what it was. But by 2022 things were changing. People were outside again, and had less free time to read newsletters. Interest rates were going up, and people were working more (even in offices). In the paid Substack group chats, most of us were reporting stalling or negative growth, even though we hadn’t changed anything on our end. And with 50% churn rates on these subscriptions, if you weren’t growing you were dying. I’m listening to Neil Young’s “After the Gold Rush” as I write this and it couldn’t be more fitting. Although I imagine Mr. Young himself would disapprove of the whole paid newsletter endeavor. What happened to newsletters? David and I call what’s going on “Substack Fatigue” – people are just tired of reading yet another newsletter, let alone paying for one. Newsletters are just not the thing anymore. There are some fast growing news ones focused on AI, but the same story is going to play out in a few years when everything cools down. Political newsletters are fully investing in video and podcasts. Newsletters are not the thing anymore. We rode a cultural wave and the wave is over. You don’t have to die, but you have to adjust. The wrench in this whole story is that Technically was only (very) part time for me. I’m pretty sure at one point I was generating the most revenue on Substack for someone who wasn’t focusing on their newsletter full time. Which is a sick flex no doubt, but was also a huge problem, because I just didn’t have the time or mental capacity to make the big moves required to reverse the trend. Technically started to slowly lose paid subscribers every month, but I was at peace with that. I was entering a new phase in my life, settling down a bit, enjoying spending time on cooking, cocktails, and music. Approaching 30 and feeling really good about everything. It’s OK for some things to be temporary, and I was content with Technically to continue to be useful to people…just not make as much money. But in the back of my head, I always knew that Technically had a lot more potential, and deserved more than I could give it. That there’s no reason this thing couldn’t be a $1M+/year business. I continue to believe that technical literacy is going to be one of the defining social problems of our era, and the progress in AI only makes this even more critical. It should be way more than a newsletter, it should be how everyone learns what the fuck is going on in this digital world. I needed some help. But I had a bad track record of getting people to work on Technically with me. It’s hard to share custody of your child. And I am extremely particular. I’m not always the easiest to work with. Worked with some contractors here and there, but never found a more long term partner. I’m extremely grateful that David Krevitt reached out to me when he did or this paragraph would end here. Instead, after regaling you with my boring tale for many paragraphs now, I can finally share what we’ve been working on since last year. It’s called Technically 2.0. It’s all of the content you know and love, but built as a piece of software specifically aimed at helping people get more technical. No more newsletter – it’s a learning platform now, complete with reading lists, bookmarks, a dictionary, and guided learning tracks. Our goal was to make a Wikipedia kind of experience: click around to follow your curiosity on whatever software you’re learning about. You can sign up on the Technically site ( You’re going to have to pay for it, but if your experience is anything like that of the other thousands of people who already have, you won’t regret it. Enjoy the soothing sounds of David's voice as he walks you through it in the video below. It’s hard to say goodbye completely to something you’ve been doing every week for 5 years. Any readers with their own long running newsletters will understand the odd, para-social relationship you develop with your audience. So I’m going to keep publishing on Substack a little – monthly roundups of the new stuff we’re publishing on Technically 2.0, plus some good sponsored posts. So while the newsletter might be dead, it is also only just beginning (or something). Hope to see you on the other side, ~ ❤️ Justin
