A Haridwar, Uttarakhand-based CNC machine manufacturer, Ranok CNC Systems, is building a 12-axis CNC wire forming machine that can bend and coil springs up to 2.5 millimetres in diameter. It features eight adjustable slides for enhanced flexibility and a rotary wire pecking system.

This is a 12-axis CNC controlled wire forming machine which can bend wires and coil springs up to 2.5mm wire diameter (spring steel and equivalent). Out of the 12 axis, 10 of those axis will have almost zero backlash planetary reducers. Precision is the name of the game. All the 8 slides you see on the front plate can be moved and rotated along the plate’s axis for better flexibility and accuracy. This will also have a rotary wire pecking system that would be the first of its kind to be made in India. I can’t wait to build this machine and show you guys how it manufactures precision springs all day and all night. The parts of this machine are being manufactured in our facility as I post this.

This thing is a beast! This is what a 26-axis CNC wire forming machine from Japan looks like. So much automation and flexibility to manufacture almost anything you want out of wires. Maybe one day we can develop such machines here.

Just designed a new machine. It’s called a wire de-coiler. As the name suggests, it de-coils the wire to be fed into the machine. It works in tandem with our CNC machines. This is a bought out machine till now but we did the math and we can actually make it for roughly the price. Another machine to be made in-house soon!

Our CNC machine has now clocked a speed of 1304 pieces/minute!! That’s more than 21 springs in a second! A 30% increase in speed over our previous record. We achieved this feat without a thorough redesign of the entire machine. All springs you see here are in the tolerance of +/- 0.1 mm It was already the fastest in the country. We just dialled it up a notch. This is now one of the fastest CNC spring coiler in the world, if not the fastest. Investing in R&D pays. Designed and built in Bharat 🇮🇳

The Apple Watch launched 10 years ago today (and has sold over 200 million units). An interesting manufacturing detail is that Apple is the world’s largest buyer of Swiss CNC machines. These automated precision tool cost ~$2m each and make small metal parts. Rolex used to be the largest buyer of CNC machines. But that title now belongs to Apple, which owns 100s of them. Why? For the Apple Watch: the tool is used specifically to make slots for swappable wrist straps. That’s it. How precise is the CNC (computer numerical control) machine? Per The Verge, an average CNC machine can cut pieces with a precision of +/- 50 microns (for comparison, a strand of hair is 70 microns). The Apple Watch is even more demanding: it requires a cut within +/- 5 microns. That’s a comically tight tolerance band. I logged in today and found that my follower base has doubled overnight....why is that - because I am posting things that I do, things that I enjoy, and my story. It resonated with people, X is teeming with engineers, developers, techs, and everything in between. This kind of content is necessary. X isn't just a debate stage for politics, it's full of very interesting and capable people, which is obvious. I honestly never knew it. I have thousands of people to follow back, and I will - its going to take a bit since there are follow back limits, but I'll work tough it. For now - here's a massive robotic welding cell we were building that had an 8000# welding fixture, 2x Fanuc M710iC/20L welding robots, Lincoln welding equipment, a Gudel servo RTU track. This fixture is mounted on a custom designed headstock system that has dual-sync servo drives from both ends - for both rotation and lift. We had to lower the entire fixture down so it could be loaded, then raise it back up so that it can rotate about its horizontal axis... so dual sync rotary and dual sync raise/lower. We built it all in-house with CNC mills, CNC lathe, CNC waterjet, powder coated in-house, I had to send out the yellow structure for stress relief and machining on a large format horizontal. This one pushed the boundary for my company, but we did it anyway.

This is what I did for 40 years. I formed engine nuts/bolts for jet aircraft. This machine is making a 12 point bolt made of stainless steel. It forges the metal at 16 tons per square inch. I designed and worked with engineers to make the dies. The punches. This is only a 2 die header. When you get up to the 5 die headers, you are in a different category. When forming Titanium, you have to heat the wire to 1200 degrees to form it. This is what I did.
