New footage has been released of a fatal police-involved shooting on Reamy Drive in Suitland, Maryland last month🚨 Prince George’s County Police initially attempted to stop two cars near Randolph Road and Suitland Road on August 21st at around 11:30pm. The driver of a Tesla, later ID’d as 33 year-old Tawfiq Abdul Haqq, took off on officers at a dead-end. Haqq then veered off the street into the grass and began driving towards police who were out on foot, at which point officer Corbin Davis opened fire. Despite officers rendering aid, Haqq was later pronounced dead on scene. Davis is a two-year veteran assigned to PGPD’s District IV Special Assignments Team. (SAT) The Maryland Office of the Attorney General Independent Investigations Division continues to investigate the shooting.

The suspects fled the scene in a blue VW Jetta 5 sedan and a case of murder, was opened at the Sebenza police station, for further investigations. Upon verification, the getaway vehicle, was found to be linked to two (2) other cases of hijacking and murder. Following credible information received, a joint intelligence-driven operation, was activated comprising the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Task Team, South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence, and Blue Hawks Security personnel. Within 24 hours of the incident, the team worked tirelessly to track and intercept the suspects. One suspect, was apprehended in the Spartan area, while two (2) other suspects, were arrested at the Enhlanzeni Hostel, together with the vehicle, used in commission of the crime. One (1) suspect led Officers to a house, at the Allandale Farm in Mayibuye, where a Beretta pistol with a filed-off serial number and 17 rounds of live ammunition, believed to have been used in the murder, was recovered. The three (3) suspects have been detained and will face charges of 'possession of a suspected hijacked/robbed motor vehicle, murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition'. The Chief of Police, Mr. IJ Mapiyeye, has commended the Officers for their swift response, dedication, and collaborative effort that led to the arrests. The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to send a clear and stern warning to all perpetrators of crime. Ekurhuleni is not a haven for criminal activity.
