A Hindutva-oriented transwoman from Rajasthan has recently claimed that her letters to PM Modi led to the passage of the atrocious Transgender Amendment Act. Another Hindutva-oriented transwoman from Delhi has filed a poorly-drafted petition in the Supreme Court against the Act, which will jeopardize collective community efforts to fight... it via the judiciary. Both transwomen supposedly belong to the same organization. Why are they then speaking in different tongues? Our LGBTQIA+ community needs to realize that we cannot have any truck with Hindutva! This vicious ideology will lead to our collective ruin. In the recent meeting of the transgender delegation with the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, I pointed out that the new amendments relied on an RSS mindset, that wanted to box Indians into the identities we were born with. They are against our aspirations. They are averse to the India we dream of — one that is diverse and plural, and where the marginalized are protected. The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, which presents as a reform, is in reality a retreat from constitutional morality, judicial guidance and the hard-fought rights of one of the most marginalized communities in our country. The transgender community in India has endured centuries of exclusion, stigma and violence. Any law that claims to protect them must be expansive, inclusive and rooted in dignity. The most alarming feature of this Bill is the complete removal of the definition of a transgender person as it exists in the 2019 Act. This Amendment Bill exposes the government’s inadequate and insensitive understanding of the transgender community. This Bill is not only against human being. The decisions we make in this House will shape the lives of countless individuals. I urge the government to withdraw the Bill or at least refer it to the Parliamentary Standing Committee for detailed examination. : R.Sudha ji in Lok Sabha

Today, in Slavutych, in the north of our country, I met with the heads of communities of the northern regions – Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. It is very important to support our people here and strengthen our defenses, and that is exactly what we are doing. This concerns protective infrastructure – fortifications and other defensive measures – as well as strengthening the border, which will be reinforced further. It also concerns our Defense and Security Forces stationed in this direction – toward Chernihiv and Kyiv from the territory of neighboring Belarus, which Russia is eager to draw deeper into this war, and from Russia’s Bryansk region. We have the capability to strengthen our defenses. We also have the capability to act preventively with regard to Russian territory from which threats may emerge, and with regard to the de facto leadership of Belarus, which must stay on its toes – that is, clearly understand that there will be consequences if aggressive actions against Ukraine, against our people, are taken.

I am grateful to the esteemed Ulemas of Mangaluru for coming together in unity to organize a rally and protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 today. Their collective efforts in safeguarding community rights and standing for justice are truly commendable. I urge all Ulemas across the state to initiate a democratic struggle against this amendment, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and their concerns are addressed. It is our responsibility to protect the integrity of Waqf institutions and uphold the rights of the community through peaceful and lawful means.
