A Hindutva-oriented transwoman from Rajasthan has recently claimed that her letters to PM Modi led to the passage of the atrocious Transgender Amendment Act. Another Hindutva-oriented transwoman from Delhi has filed a poorly-drafted petition in the Supreme Court against the Act, which will jeopardize collective community efforts to fight it via the judiciary. Both transwomen supposedly belong to the same organization. Why are they then speaking in different tongues? Our LGBTQIA+ community needs to realize that we cannot have any truck with Hindutva! This vicious ideology will lead to our collective ruin. In the recent meeting of the transgender delegation with the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, I pointed out that the new amendments relied on an RSS mindset, that wanted to box Indians into the identities we were born with. They are against our aspirations. They are averse to the India we dream of — one that is diverse and plural, and where the marginalized are protected. When we raise our voices against the Transgender Amendment Act, let's never forget which doctrine got us here in the first place!
