Handri Neeva water is now flowing from Kothacheruvu towards Puttaparthi. 🌊💧 With the expansion of irrigation and drinking-water projects, a large part of Rayalaseema is increasingly dependent on Krishna River water. In the coming years, a significant portion of Andhra Pradesh’s population may depend heavily on Krishna waters. This is a moment for us to think ahead and develop alternative and sustainable water sources. We should not depend completely on a single river or water source. One river cannot be the only lifeline for millions. We must plan today for the water security of tomorrow. 🌱💧

Lake Powell’s falling water levels tell two very different stories. On one side, there are serious concerns about the future of water supplies and hydropower across the Colorado River system. But there’s another side to this story. Recreation on Lake Powell is still alive and well. Boaters, kayakers and families are still exploring a massive reservoir where deep water remains across much of the lake. And as the water retreats, portions of Glen Canyon that have been submerged for decades are emerging again, revealing landscapes few people have had the chance to see. It’s a double-edged sword: a shrinking reservoir with major consequences for the West, while also uncovering a remarkable natural landscape and remaining one of the region’s great places to get out on the water. A 30-year-old man was killed and a woman suffered a fractured leg after a car veered onto a footpath near T. Nulenur in Holalkere taluk of Chitradurga district. According to reports, the accident occurred after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash onto the footpath and run over people standing there. The deceased has been identified as Pradeep (30), a resident of Dagge village in Holalkere taluk. The injured woman was admitted to a hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. The shocking accident was captured on CCTV. Police have registered a case at the Chitrahalli Police Station and launched an investigation into the incident.

On this World Earth Day, we bring you the true story of the “Namma Kere” (our lake)-the Alkoda lake. Based in Raichur district of Karnataka, this 100-acre waterbody was crucial to the primary profession of the region, its farmers. A few years back, the lake had become dry due to erratic rainfall, weed and silt accumulation, severely affecting its water holding capacity. Farmers were barely able to grow one crop a year and were forced to move out of their villages in search of other livelihoods. With the collaborative efforts of ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth - the CSR arm of ICICI Bank, Gram Panchayat and local communities, things began to change. What was once considered a dry, forgotten lake has become a thriving water body today. The revival of the 100-acre lake has: - Created 64 crore litres of annual water holding capacity - Brought 600 acres of land under cultivation - Replenished groundwater enabling the creation of 80 new borewells Watch the video below to see the stunning visuals of not just ripples being restored but also hope. To translate this abundance of rainfall into availability of drinking water for communities, in 2024, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, the CSR arm of ICICI Bank, stepped in by introducing the Springwater Harvesting System. Through this initiative, water from hilltop springs is diverted through pipelines, collected and stored in tanks, filtered, and then distributed to nearby homes. With this, communities across villages in Ri-Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills do not have to walk kilometres to fetch water. They now have access to year-round safe drinking water in the vicinity of their villages: improving quality of life and strengthening communities across generations. By March 31, 2025, these water conservation efforts resulted in: - 225 km of pipeline network connecting 78 springs to 45 villages - 4.5 million litres of annual water storage created - 30,000+ lives benefitted across the region This initiative has helped ensure year-round access to clean drinking water, improving quality of life and strengthening communities across generations.
