A year ago, by July 5, the Srisailam Dam was overflowing with massive inflows, releasing floodwaters downstream. Today, the Krishna River bed near the Srisailam Dam on the Andhra Pradesh–Telangana border lies almost completely dry. A stark reminder of how dramatically water availability can change within a year. #Elnino #KrishnaRiver #SrisailamDam Forwarded Video.

#Agumbe 83 mm till 5:30 PM today !! Karnataka Western Ghats are witnessing their first major spell of heavy rainfall this season. If this pattern continues for the next 10 days, it should significantly boost much-needed reservoir inflows. Widespread rainfall is currently being reported across the ghat areas of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts.

Same date, completely different story. 20 June 2025: 51,000 cusecs inflow | 38.61 TMC storage. 20 June 2026: 78 cusecs inflow | 9.79 TMC storage. Last year, the Tungabhadra was carrying a massive flood; this year, El Niño has left the basin struggling with extremely low inflows.

Krishna River at Karnataka - Maharashtra Border. The much-awaited moment has arrived as the Krishna River begins flowing from Maharashtra into Karnataka after all the floodgates of the Rajapur Barrage were opened. Continuous heavy rainfall over the South Konkan catchment for the past three days has triggered this flood flow. 🎥Sudarshan Jain

Tala Hydroelectric Power Station, Bhutan!! An alarming video has surfaced showing the Wangchu River(Raidak River in India) overflowing the dam for the first time ever. Although the dam is still intact, the extent of the damage will only be clear after the floodwaters subside. The dam continues to generate electricity, and the spillway gates remain open, but the water flow is extremely high. The Bhutan government has already been in touch with the state authorities. If more water is released, it could lead to a repeat of the devastating 1993 flood. Courtesy-Saheb Sarkar

Yamuna River Floods near Noida !! The Yamuna River near Noida flooding across wide stretches of flat terrain. Because the river flows through the plains of North India, when heavy rainfall occurs in its upper catchment (Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh), the water spreads out over a vast low-lying area, inundating farmland, villages, and even parts of urban settlements. The flat topography gives the floodwaters no quick outlet, so the waterlogging lasts longer and causes severe disruption to people’s lives. By contrast, South Indian rivers such as the Kaveri, Krishna, and Godavari flow mostly through undulating or hilly terrain in their upper and middle reaches. Floods there are usually swift and forceful but tend to recede faster because the steeper gradients allow water to drain quickly into reservoirs or the sea. Thus, while northern rivers like the Yamuna create widespread and prolonged flooding on flat alluvial plains, southern rivers typically cause short-lived but intense floods in narrower valleys. Both situations bring their own challenges, but in terms of area submerged, the Yamuna’s floods near Noida cover a much broader expanse. 🎥Arav Koli
