In NYC, schools have co-ed bathrooms. My children went to a school that had pre-school 3’s -5th grade. The shared bathrooms started from pre-k 4’s. My daughter was 3 when she started that year. So, theoretically, my 3yo daughter could be alone in a bathroom with a 10-12yo 5th grade boy. I discovered it because my 1st grade daughter was telling me an anecdote of a conversation in the bathroom and she mentioned a boy’s name. No parents were notified. I confronted the principal. Nothing was done. I notified other parents. Nobody cared. We took our kids out of the school district.

Kansas is a quirky state when it comes to social issues. Education unions are major players. They pay larger salaries and have large staffs of non-facing student personnel. Constantly complaining they need more money for education.

Parents should not have to expend precious resources hiring an attorney to fight for what the law proscribes!!! The feds should have given them 48 hours and forced payback of fed funds for every day in violation. An education voucher should have been given to the child immediately. Removal of the administration, including the superintendent, should be mandatory.
