Your baby thrives on predictability. Specifically, yours. This week I’ve been talking about attachment, which holds long lasting consequences for your child’s mental and physical health (not to mention their cognitive development). Secure attachments in infancy occur when parents’ interactions with their babies are: Warm. Responsive. Safe. And consistently so. I’ve shared lots of important tips in the past. Tips on reading to your child. Tips on play. Tips on language development. But I want to be clear that attachment has nothing to do with the number of toys or books in your home. Or how well you interact most of the time. Attachment is a product of your predictability. It’s how you interact EVERY time. It’s what you teach your child to expect from you as their caregiver. Inconsistency in the way adults interact with children - warm and responsive one day and potentially cold and distracted the next - is detrimental to secure attachment. When children don’t know what to expect from day to day, it creates anxiety. And this activates the body’s stress response systems. Continually. This is one reason that it’s so important for parents to thoughtfully manage their own stress, exhaustion, safety, and mental health needs. When you aren’t at your best for yourself, you likely won’t be at your best for your baby. As an aside, consistency is also why I’ve spoken out about viral social media trends that undermine trust and predictability by inserting chaotic behaviors into the parent-child relationship. Several months ago - if you can believe it - it was unexpectedly cracking open an egg on your child’s forehead. This week it seems to be throwing slices of American cheese at/onto your baby’s head/face. (I wish I was making this up.) While it’s easy for us as to dismiss such behaviors as jokes, to young children they are detrimental for precisely the reason some adults may find them funny: they’re unexpected. But when your otherwise kind and attentive parent randomly acts with callousness - if even for a moment - it breaks a stable pattern. It provides a new data point that suggests you may be warm and caring… but also may not be dependably. And this is precisely what undermines attachment. (The good news is that an otherwise stable attachment is unlikely to be permanently disrupted by one dumb mistake. We all make them. Still… don’t. Just don’t.) Be kind, be responsive, and do it predictably. I’ll never share the kind of videos I described above. In their place, enjoy this warm and secure interaction between storyoferica (IG) and her happy little one.

Let's stop dressing this up as "just a place of worship." The construction of a £2.5 million mosque on the edge of the Lake District isn't about serving a scattered community of 100 families - it's about staking territory. This is not necessity - it's a statement of permanence and power, and it follows the exact same logic as mass public prayer demonstrations that clog our city streets: visibility equals dominance. The Lake District is a cultural jewel, a bastion of English identity, Christian heritage, and national tranquillity. Building a three-storey mosque with a community centre and car park in this setting - complete with fundraising slogans about "anchoring children's identities" and making the area a "destination for Muslim families" - is not about integration. It's about demographic and ideological entrenchment. And let's be honest - if the roles were reversed and Christians sought to build a cathedral in the heart of a predominantly Muslim area overseas, the outrage would be deafening. Yet here, silence or celebration is expected. Meanwhile, churches are shuttered, our traditions mocked, and our landscapes transformed under the lie of "diversity." This is not harmless multiculturalism. This is calculated cultural displacement. It's a continuation of the same pattern we've seen across Britain: parallel societies, cultural appeasement, and symbolic power plays - public prayers in parks, prayer rooms in schools, loudspeakers in our towns, and now, mosques rising where they were never part of the historical or spiritual fabric. It's not about faith. It's about footprint. About sending a clear message: "We're here. We're staying. And we're expanding." If we don't push back - clearly, firmly, unapologetically - we will lose not just our buildings and spaces, but our claim to our own country. This isn't inclusion. It's encroachment. And the price of silence is erasure.

Hey Punks! Exactly 8 years ago (to the minute) I claimed my first punk. In the years since we've seen a ton of incredible ways the community has shown up for the project and created public goods for the ecosystem and here's yet one more for y'all to nerd out on. Excited to share a fun little tool for y'all I've been working on with Generative Goods and embroidery wizard (DCA) Daniel Calderon Arenas. Put your punkID in the box and get professional quality DST (embroidery) files of your punk in a variety of sizes. I see people wearing their punks all the time and after spending the last few years deeply studying machine embroidery understand how annoying and complex it can be to get a good digitized version of your punk. A good digitization can cost $100 and that's for a single sized output. The punk embroidery generator will give you a range of sizes in stitch-perfect outputs for any of the 10k punks plus for the DIY folks a cross-stitch pattern for you to make your own by hand (s/o to Fanny Lakoubay and Rachel Suzanne Tien Wood who completed theirs of STONE's #98 recently 🙌). We've put some instructions on the site to help you through the process, plus some embroidery machine recommendations in case you want to go all out and make them look at feel professional. Note: GenGoods is not set up to do the embroidery for these (our system uses the same 15 colors across all our projects and Punks use way more colors across all the various outputs) but the downloads on the site give you exactly what you need to walk into any embroidery shop and have them make your punk for you. We suggest thread colors in the tool but that's just to get you started. A good embroidery shop will have tons to pick from so just pick the colors that best match your punk. Anyways we thought it would be a fun way to celebrate the punks 8th anniversary with this fun little tool. Can't wait to see what y'all make with this. Enjoy! 🍻

I'm launching an urgent fundraiser to support engineering equipment for our frontline efforts, and I need your help. Please donate, like, share, and comment—every bit of support is crucial. You can find the donation link at the end of this message. The situation on the front lines is incredibly challenging. Errors by political and military leaders, combined with slow support from the West, have led to significant losses in both territory and lives in the Pokrovsk axis. While we can't always change the decisions made by our leaders, we can make a real difference by providing our soldiers with essential engineering equipment. For instance, I personally have reservations about the operation in Kursk for my own reasons. However, I am fully committed to doing everything I can to save Ukrainian lives during this operation. That’s why one of Liberty Ukraine Foundation 🇺🇸🇺🇦’s excavators is already at work at the new positions on that axis. Our efforts to save soldiers' lives should remain focused regardless of individual opinions on tactical or strategic decisions made by our Ukrainian leadership. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Liberty Ukraine Foundation 🇺🇸🇺🇦, we have already transferred or are in the process of transferring over 8 excavators. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with engineering, infantry, and artillery units reporting that this equipment is saving many lives. On both the Kursk and Pokrovsk axes, the front lines are constantly shifting, which makes the need for excavating equipment even more critical. This equipment allows our forces to adapt quickly and operate more effectively. Our goal is to raise 🎯 $110,000. I know this is a substantial amount, but we've successfully raised even more in the past, and this equipment is making a significant impact right now. donation link 🔗 Thank you for your support.
