Dude I would be BEYOND furious. I am a real estate developer & trees are 100% protected on my properties. Like, I design/build houses AROUND them. If anyone did this on my property, hell would be a welcome relief for what I would rain down on them!!!!!!!!!

Just to pave the way for the construction of the “Southern Access Link Expressway” (SALEX) by San Miguel Corporation. The SALEX spans a measly 4 kilometers but four elevated lanes. THEY PAVED PARADISE AND PUT UP A SKYWAY I condemn the DENR for allowing the tree-cutting and earth-balling of HUNDREDS OF TREES along Quirino Avenue in Manila City. All of these trees cut. Just to pave the way for the construction of the “Southern Access Link Expressway” (SALEX) by San Miguel Corporation. The SALEX spans a measly 4 kilometers but four elevated lanes. A total of 617 trees will be affected. 617 trees — all of it for just 4 kilometers of an expressway which will never reduce traffic because all expressways have been proven to actually induce demand for automobiles according to empirical research and scientific studies. Today at the Eko Amore Gardens in Lekki, we marked the 2026 Tree Planting Day with a powerful demonstration of our collective commitment to a greener and more climate resilient Lagos. I had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu , ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, along with the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, our Tree Champions, and community leaders. The theme for this year, “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility,” speaks directly to the fact that environmental stewardship is a duty we all share. Tree planting is not a ceremonial event, it is a strategic environmental intervention and one of the simplest, most effective nature based solutions to combat extreme weather, flooding, biodiversity loss, and rising temperatures. The Governor charged all Lagosians to not only plant trees but to nurture them to maturity, and he set a clear target of 20,000 trees for this year. As of June 30, we had already planted 13,401 trees representing 67 percent of that target, and a new planting season has now commenced across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, running throughout the rainy season until October. I am pleased to announce that every LGA and LCDA Chairman has been designated as a Tree Custodian, responsible for nurturing and monitoring the trees planted in their jurisdictions for a minimum of 12 months to ensure survival. The Governor also unveiled the 20 Lagos Tree Champions, outstanding individuals and organisations whose contributions are advancing the greening of our State. I urge every resident to obtain free tree seedlings from LASPARK’s Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency - LASPARK nurseries, plant in your homes, schools, offices and communities, and nurture them. We are not just planting trees, we are planting hope, health, and a lasting legacy for generations to come. This is how we build a #CleanerLagos and a truly #GreaterLagos.
