It was a great honour to participate in the 47th #ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur. EU and ASEAN are two regional organisations that share the same objectives: building peace, stability and prosperity through cooperation and integration. Our collective ambition is to work side by side to keep our regions even more connected to each other and to the world. As we look ahead to the 50th anniversary of EU-ASEAN relations in 2027, we must strengthen and deepen our partnership. We not only share geography, we share deep historic relations and shared values. We are part of the global south. We not only share trade relations, but also cultural relations. Multilateralism is not old-fashioned. Multilateralism is not outdated. Multilateralism is our best – maybe our only – defence against disruption, violence and chaos. And South Africa put multilateralism to work. Thank you President Ramaphosa for your leadership. The South Africa G20 Presidency have done an exceptional work throughout the year. The EU is here, standing next to South Africa. A predictable, reliable, and trustworthy partner, working together with our G20 partners. Because nobody cannot tackle global challenges alone. As we start a new cycle of G20 Presidencies, I am looking forward to working together on tackling global challenges.
