🇺🇦⚡️ Ukraine is beginning to move critical energy infrastructure underground, with frontline Zaporizhzhia becoming the first city to build underground protection for key power facilities as Kyiv prepares its grid for further Russian attacks. According to regional military administration chief Ivan Fedorov, underground protective structures are being constructed at two substations, while transformers at other critical facilities are being reinforced with massive concrete shelters. More than half of the region’s key transformers have already received protective structures, reducing their vulnerability to Russian missiles and drones. This is Ukraine adapting its infrastructure to a long war. Instead of relying solely on scarce and expensive air-defense interceptors, Kyiv is increasingly making the targets themselves harder to destroy. If the Zaporizhzhia model proves effective and expands nationwide, Russia will have to spend considerably more weapons to achieve the same level of damage to Ukraine’s energy grid, precisely the kind of unfavorable exchange Kyiv needs ahead of future winter strike campaigns.
