A Nigerian lady urges Africans to continue and start using mud or clay in building houses and infrastructure, as it has more advantages in Africa than cement and concrete.

It starts from our curriculum design in architecture .. As a nation, we need an identity to evolve using our materials to further the African narrative

Anyone who grew up in the village and has lived in a mud house would understand this better. Back in the 90s/early 2000s while I was still in the village, whenever we returned from the farm under the hot sun, the moment you stepped into the house, you would feel relieved with a cozy feeling, staying inside the house was cooler than stepping outside. But for these concrete houses in the city, you can't stay inside without an AC or at least a fan.

You can't use mud to build multi-story buildings. Our ancestors also didn't have the technology to process cement then.

Love her thought process but we don't have a union to see through the development of Africa, preservation of our climate and maintenence of that unique African look and culture. We have leaders who answer to the west and don't have vision. Change the leaders.

She’s Ghanaian first of all … but honestly we have to explore alternative building materials that suits our terrain . The paint we use , building materials and all are meant for the west … we need to solve this ourselves. Because building now is crazy. Unless we sell kidneys

The negativity of some people is fascinating. The desire to not see anything of value in what your ancestors did, to see no wisdom in their choices, is a thing to behold. But let some Dutch or English designer speak on it and all of a sudden it's a brilliant European concept. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Exactly. I'm encouraging Haitians to do the same and why I'm working to show Haitians how to use mud and clay, the best solution for Haiti, especially with our climate.

We should even go back to the rafters and caves where we came from.
