Senator Scott is right—Iran’s nuclear ambitions are an existential threat, and Israel’s decisive action under Operation Rising Lion was necessary after years of Biden’s failed appeasement. The $6 billion sanctions waiver to Iran in 2023, revoked too late, directly funded terror proxies like Hamas. Europe’s half-measures and Biden’s weak enforcement of the Solidify Iran Sanctions Act emboldened Tehran’s uranium enrichment. Deterrence isn’t optional—it’s survival. When diplomacy becomes a cover for regime enrichment, force becomes the only language tyrants understand. America must lead, not plead.

President Trump deserves great credit for making a decision for the first time in modern history to unleash the armed forces of the United States against Iran last year and this year… But I do have very real concerns about the MOU now that we see what’s In it and also what’s Not In It. This MOU with Iran does smack of the kind of appeasement that our administration rejected in the Obama-Iran nuclear deal and also when Joe Biden attempted to return to the politics of appeasement during his administration. I would urge the President to take a step back, continue the blockade and pursue a negotiated settlement that commits Iran to dismantling their nuclear program, dismantling this missile program, ends support for terrorist proxies and opens the strait. Failing that, we should let our Armed Forces finish the job on our terms.

Following his historic decision to strike Iran this year and last summer, President Trump has earned the latitude to try to put together a negotiated peace. I don’t want to prejudge this. We’re all hopeful, but I just don’t trust the Iranians. For 47 years, this regime has breathed Death to Israel and Death to America. Unless we see Iran completely and verifiably dismantle its nuclear program, its ballistic missile program and renounce support of terrorist proxies, I believe we should unleash our Armed Forces to finish the job. 🇺🇸
