For years, British Columbia expanded drug consumption sites while overdose deaths continued to soar. Now, evidence from across Canada demonstrates the dangerous consequences of this approach. Dr. Julian Somers shows us how in Canadian jurisdictions that have closed consumption sites while expanding recovery and treatment services, deaths have declined greatly. In Alberta, research found that when a consumption site closed and recovery supports increased, overdose deaths declined while more people entered treatment. In Ontario, nine publicly funded consumption sites transitioned to recovery-focused services. In the months that followed, Toronto recorded 41% fewer overdose deaths than during the same period the previous year. Here in British Columbia, overdose deaths have also declined from the record highs seen during the pandemic, including following the closure of the 1060 Howe Street overdose prevention site. More and more evidence points toward a recovery-focused approach that helps people rebuild their lives—not simply maintain addiction. Source on the ground in Texas who is participating in search and recovery in Hunt, Texas sent me this video. They told me they were just at the command post and overheard on the radio that rescuers have found another dead body. Bodies are being recovered about every 30 minutes. Officials have not officially said it’s a recovery phase, but it is now a recovery phase. It is highly unlikely they will find any more people alive from what my source on the ground who is involved in recovery efforts just told me.

Recovering addict here, and I genuinely can't stop laughing at Pierre Poilievre pretending he understands addiction and recovery. By this logic, basically every recovery service in Canada is “garbage” because people relapse. Newsflash: relapse happens in addiction recovery. Treatment isn't a magic wand. And the idea that treatment centres will follow people around after rehab, drug test them, and then have their future government funding determined by whether former patients remain drug-free? LMAO 🤣🤣🤣 THAT'S NOT HOW RECOVERY WORKS. And where exactly are these 50,000 treatment beds coming from? Fairies? 🧚 Who's building them? Who's staffing them? Where are the doctors, nurses, counsellors, peer workers and support staff magically appearing from? Then he wants to defund supervised consumption sites the exact places that can keep someone alive when relapse happens. You can't claim to support recovery while defunding services that keep people alive long enough to reach it. This is the video that changed my life. In February of 2023, refusing to wear a mask - on a job site in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights - cost me my job, and nearly my career. After getting fired, I made a video on my way home, and it went viral. This landed me on Tucker Carlson and Owen Shroyer, and everything changed after that. Now, almost 2 years later, they’re bringing mask mandates back to hospitals. This will soon be followed by mask mandates in public spaces. If people comply, it will prove that we’ve learned nothing from the government mandated Covid restrictions. I don’t know about you guys, but I will not be complying, and I don’t care if it costs me my job again, and I really like my new job. It took me over a year to find a company that would take me on. Now I’m getting recruited like crazy again. Go figure. Thank you for being here everyone, but please do not bend the knee to government overreach. Don’t let them do this again.
