Two people were killed and two others injured in a shooting at a gas station on the road to the coast in Guayaquil, Guayas province, Ecuador. Two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire on a parked black van, hitting four people, including a station worker. Two victims died at the scene, while the injured were rushed to a hospital. The attackers fled and are being actively sought by police.

Political differences must never justify attacks on fellow Kenyans, journalists, leaders or destruction of property. Those responsible, regardless of affiliation must be independently investigated and held accountable. Our security agencies must stand up and protect every Kenyan’s right to disagree peacefully. We have only one country.

For years, Kenya has witnessed deadly school fires and preventable tragedies linked to overcrowding, poor emergency preparedness, and ignored safety concerns yet we do nothing. Our children deserve safe spaces to learn and rest, not death traps. This latest school fire must be the last one. Those who, through omission or commission, contributed to the deaths of these 16 children must be held criminally responsible. To all the grieving families, I am deeply sorry for your loss. May God comfort you in this time of pain. May the young souls lost in this preventable tragedy rest in peace.
