Houthis Are Making a Push to Capture Bab al Mandab Strait Houthi military activity is building along Yemen’s southern Red Sea front, with movements stretching from Hudaydah and western Ta’izz toward Mocha and the approaches to the Bab al Mandab Strait. المقاومة الوطنية reported that Houthi forces sent additional troops and military vehicles toward the Maqbanah and Al-Kadhah fronts in western Ta’izz, including deployments to high ground around Al-Saeedah. الساحل الغربي | The West Coast also reported strikes against Houthi positions and commanders in Al-Barh. According to its account, strikes targeted the command of the Houthi 14th Samad Brigade and the headquarters of the 155th Infantry Brigade. It claimed more than 27 Houthi personnel were killed and 19 wounded over three days, with several military vehicles disabled. Four personnel were reportedly killed in the strike on the 155th Infantry Brigade, while its commander was wounded. These casualty figures remain claims from the National Resistance. Farther north, fighting has intensified around Hudaydah. The National Resistance said Houthi forces launched one-way attack drones toward areas south of Al-Khawkhah, while National Resistance artillery targeted what it described as hostile Houthi movements along the Hudaydah front. The activity comes alongside significant movements of Houthi foot soldiers from Dhamar and Ibb toward Red Sea districts in Hudaydah and Ta’izz. The deployments, reinforcement of western Ta’izz positions, drone attacks, and missile activity point to broader Houthi shaping operations along the western coastal front and toward Bab al Mandab. Earlier, two ballistic missiles were reportedly launched from northeastern Al Hasha District in Al Dhale Governorate toward the Al Hariqah area near Bab al Mandab. Other accounts said the missiles landed in uninhabited areas around Dhubab and Bab al Mandab. Al Hariqah is located in the Bani al Hakam subdistrict of Dhubab District near Bab al Mandab. Fewer than 10,000 people live in this Red Sea coastal district, with fishing providing a livelihood for much of the local population. The escalation is also producing casualties among government-aligned forces. The National Resistance held a funeral in Mocha for Abdullah Abdulrazzaq, who it said was killed in the fighting. He was buried at the Guardians of the Republic cemetery, where the National Resistance renewed its pledge to continue what it describes as the battle to restore the Yemeni state. Meanwhile, طارق محمد صالح, vice president of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and the principal commander of government-aligned forces on the western coast, visited wounded resistance fighters and injured crew members of the commercial vessel Tihama, previously targeted by the Houthis. He also visited the “Martyrs’ Paradise” cemetery and met with local residents.

War in #Yemen #SITREP | Government Narrative | Fighting has intensified across several Yemeni fronts, with government-aligned forces reporting advances in Marib and Al Jawf, heavy clashes in western Taiz, and renewed naval activity in the Red Sea. West Coast Al-Barah Front: National Resistance forces report heavy fighting against Houthi forces along the Al-Barh and Al-Kadhah fronts west of Taiz. المقاومة الوطنية released footage said to show direct strikes against Houthi positions and concentrations. National Resistance forces also claim to have captured a senior Houthi commander carrying operational material connected to an alleged plan to advance toward Bab al-Mandab. According to the National Resistance, the seized material includes operational maps, combat data, and radio communication codes. Further details are expected from its military media. Separate National Resistance statements say several Houthi commanders linked to the alleged Bab al-Mandab operation were killed or captured. Among those reportedly detained is Murtada al-Nuami, also known as "Abdul Samad," identified as head of the medical division of the Houthi reserve and rapid intervention forces. Airstrikes were also reported against Houthi positions around Al-Barh. الساحل الغربي | The West Coast said one strike targeted a meeting of senior Houthi military commanders. There are unconfirmed reports that senior figures may have been killed, including Mohammed al-Atifi. No independent confirmation was provided in the material reviewed. Southern Red Sea Front: National Resistance naval forces say they intercepted Houthi boats attempting to approach government-held islands overlooking international shipping routes in the Red Sea. According to قناة الجمهورية | Aljoumhouriya TV, naval units engaged the boats and forced them to withdraw north toward Hodeidah city. The National Resistance says this was the third such interception in less than a month. Taiz Hayfan Front: According to المركز الاعلامي لمحور تعز Heavy fighting was reported across Hayfan district in southern Taiz. Clashes centered around the Al-Manzara hill and the approaches to Jabal al-Mamshah. Government-aligned forces reportedly used artillery while airstrikes hit Houthi positions and concentrations around Al-Mamshah, Al-Ahkum, Ayrim, Al-Qubaytah, Al-Rahidah and Kirsh. Houthi forces were reported to have moved reinforcements toward several positions, including Al-Akboush School, Al-Zubayrah market, the Al-Ahkum junction, Hawd hill, Al-Khazjah, Al-Aabous and Al-Manzara. Marib Front: Forces of Yemen's Third Military Region Command (MRC) launched an operation against Houthi positions on Marib's southern fronts after reporting repeated movements and infiltration attempts. المركز الإعلامي للقوات المسلحة اليمنية claim the operation resulted in Houthi fighters being killed, wounded and captured, along with the destruction of vehicles and combat equipment. Government forces and allied Popular Resistance units also reportedly seized several positions and placed pressure on Houthi supply routes. Farther north, government forces reported taking positions near Mihzam Mas and the Al-Balaq mountains. Al-Jawf Front: قوات درع الوطن قوات الطوارئ اليمنية _ الفرقة الثالثة الفرقة الأولى _ قوات الطوارئ اليمنية forces reported new gains east of Al-Hazm, claiming control of Al-Mathafat, Tubbat al-Masariyah and surrounding high ground north of Upper Al-Labanat. They also claim to have taken control of earthworks and trenches extending roughly 20 km from Al-Duhaydhah through Al-Sa'ara toward Bir al-Maraziq. The operation appears aimed at disrupting Houthi supply routes toward Bir al-Maraziq and strengthening government positions east of Al-Hazm.

War in #Yemen #SITREP | For now, Houthi advances appear to have been halted across several fronts, while some recent gains have been rolled back by government-aligned forces. But the fighting is far from over. Both sides are repositioning, reinforcing contested sectors, and continuing artillery, drone, and missile operations. Three senior commanders from Yemen's anti-Houthi forces remain at the center of the current operations. They are Lt. Gen. طارق محمد صالح, commander of the National Resistance Forces المقاومة الوطنية, Maj. Gen. Abdulrahman al-Lahji, commander of the National Shield Forces قوات درع الوطن, and Maj. Gen. Hamdi Shukri, commander of the 4th Military Region. A video message from Maj. Gen. Shukri has circulated widely on Yemeni social media. Shukri said his forces would continue the battle "until Yemen is cleansed of Iranian influence." He also claimed that Houthi forces were in a state of collapse and that government-aligned forces had achieved major battlefield successes. His comments reflect his assessment of the fighting and should not be treated as independent confirmation of a wider Houthi collapse. The rural western Ta'izz front is quieter for now as both sides reorganize and bring in reinforcements following the recent fighting. Artillery fire, drone activity, and localized clashes nevertheless continue across several sectors. In western Ta'izz, National Resistance forces reported heavy clashes with Houthi forces in the Al-Kadhah sector. Pro-government media also reported artillery strikes against Houthi positions and troop concentrations around Al-Barh, Saqm, and other parts of the western coastal front. Local sources reported Houthi artillery fire on villages around Ash-Shurajah in Jabal Habashi District, with the main road reportedly cut and the movement of displaced civilians disrupted. Another report said a woman and one of her relatives were killed when a bus carrying displaced civilians was struck in Jabal Habashi. The fighting has also extended toward Al-Ashruh in Jabal Habashi, as Houthi forces shelled the outskirts of Al-Ashruh in western Ta'izz with artillery. Farther south along the Red Sea coast, Houthi mortar fire against Al-Haymah village in southern Hudaydah, with several displaced civilians reportedly wounded. In Mawza District, western Ta'izz, a child was killed by a missile strike on Al-Murakh village. The National Resistance also claimed that bodies recovered following fighting on the western coast included members of Somalia's al-Shabaab who had fought alongside Houthi forces. Its military media said documents and personal belongings found with the bodies supported the identification. The claim remains unverified. From the published material alone, it is not possible to establish whether the dead were Somali fighters, African Yemenis, or individuals of another background. Fighting has also been reported beyond western Ta'izz. In southern Marib, pro-government forces released footage showing artillery and drone strikes against Houthi positions, artillery sites, vehicles, and sniper positions. In Al-Bayda, local sources reported airstrikes against Houthi positions around Jabal Sawda Ghurab in Al-Zahir District. Houthi forces were also reported to have shelled a tribal gathering in the Aynat Al Barman area. In Al-Jawf, forces belonging to Yemen's internationally recognized government said they struck Houthi personnel and military capabilities at Al-Labnat camp. A military spokesman described the attack as a response to recent Houthi escalation and said newly introduced capabilities were used. The current picture is therefore one of a Houthi offensive that has lost momentum in several areas, with some advances reversed, but not a concluded battle. Front lines remain active, reinforcements continue to move, and further attempts by either side to regain the initiative should be expected.

War in #Yemen #SITREP | If you only followed Houthi military media الإعلام الحربي اليمني, you could easily come away with the impression that almost nothing is happening on Yemen's active fronts. Houthi military media has remained unusually quiet, producing very little battlefield content. By our count, it has released only two relevant videos since July 15. The picture from Yemeni government forces is very different. According to the Armed Forces Media Center, المركز الإعلامي للقوات المسلحة اليمنية Houthi forces launched at least 14 ballistic missiles toward populated districts along the western coast in Taiz and Hodeidah, alongside several drone attacks. Government air defenses reportedly intercepted multiple drones over the Taiz axis and western coastal districts. The military said the ballistic-missile strikes had no significant effect on its forces. Fighting was also reported around the al-Kadhah sector of the al-Barh axis in western Taiz, where government forces said they engaged Houthi firing positions amid exchanges on the ground. Meanwhile, government forces have been publishing footage of their own operations. Recent material shows drones striking alleged Houthi positions and concentrations on several fronts, Third Military Region artillery engaging Houthi positions on the southern Ma'rib fronts, and Seventh Military Region rocket artillery targeting positions and troop concentrations along the western Ma'rib fronts. Additional footage reportedly shows strikes against Houthi vehicles, positions, and personnel across several Ma'rib sectors. Away from the front lines, security forces at the al-Wadiah border crossing in Hadramawt reported intercepting roughly 15,000 pregabalin pills allegedly being transported from Houthi-controlled territory toward Saudi Arabia. Authorities said the pills were concealed inside cavities in a vehicle. The driver and vehicle were detained pending further investigation.

Houthi Central Security Captain Defects After Viral “I Am Hungry” Protest Captain Abu Mirtah Al-Saidi, an officer in the Houthi-controlled Central Security Forces in Sana'a, has announced his defection from the group after gaining widespread attention for a video in which he complained of hunger and the worsening living conditions facing rank-and-file security personnel. Al-Saidi became widely known after declaring “I am hungry” in a video that circulated across Yemeni social media. The phrase soon became a broader expression of frustration over economic hardship in Houthi-controlled northern Yemen. The controversy grew after Mohammed Miftah, the acting prime minister of the Houthi administration in Sana'a, publicly mocked Al-Saidi and his complaint about hunger. Al-Saidi later released a defection video in which he launched a fierce attack on the Houthi leadership and described his escape from the group as a narrow one. “Glory be to God who brought me out from among the unjust, the criminals,” Al-Saidi said. “I survived by a miracle.” Al-Saidi said he had served for years in the Central Security Forces and acknowledged his previous role in supporting the Houthis. He said he had mobilized people for Houthi events, participated in security operations and collected money from civilians, including vehicle owners, for activities organized by the group. He expressed regret for his past involvement. “I admit openly that I was guilty,” he said, before describing his efforts to recruit and mobilize people for the Houthi movement as one of his biggest mistakes. Al-Saidi also claimed that Houthi officials had previously forced him to apologize after his “I am hungry” video went viral. He said the three-word complaint caused such concern among officials that security forces in the capital were placed on alert. In his latest video, Al-Saidi directly attacked Miftah, accusing the Houthi leadership of humiliating lower-ranking officers while senior supervisors enjoyed privileges unavailable to ordinary personnel. He said that while he struggled to afford basic food and received only a small daily payment for participating in security operations, Houthi supervisors around him were spending large amounts of money on personal purchases. Al-Saidi also accused Houthi officials and supervisors of seizing homes and property belonging to others. He criticized conditions in prisons under the group's control, claiming that some people had been detained for months over minor disputes. He then addressed people he said he had previously encouraged to support the Houthis. “My biggest mistake was that I mobilized you,” he said. “I swear to God, I regret it, and I ask God to forgive me.” Al-Saidi described his experience with the movement as one that stripped people of their dignity and subjected them to what he called “slavery.” He urged others living under Houthi rule to speak publicly about their economic conditions and repeated the phrase that first brought him widespread attention. “I advise you to shout, ‘I am hungry,’” he said. Al-Saidi ended his message by saying he had committed himself to “speaking the truth” and challenging those he accused of oppression. “Greetings to you,” he said. “What comes next will be greater.”

War in #Yemen #SITREP | After what appears to have been a day-long pause in major operations following the collapse of the West Coast front. Government forces are now slowly stepping up operations again. Aircraft have reportedly carried out a series of strikes on Houthi positions, vehicles, and troop concentrations around Mocha, Dhubab, Bab al-Mandab, Camp Khalid, and Jabal al-Nar. Several strikes reportedly hit Houthi concentrations around Mocha port and airport, while others targeted reinforcements and equipment moving through the Bab al-Mandab area. The military says air operations have now begun inside the previously declared closed military zone, described as a “kill box” across western Taiz and the West Coast. Civilians have been warned to stay off the Taiz-Mocha and Mocha-Dhubab roads, as well as other designated restricted routes, until further notice. Farther east, footage released by government forces shows snipers engaging Houthi fighters along the eastern front, while the Third Military Region says its artillery and other units struck Houthi positions, personnel, weapons depots, and what it described as a strategic site. Meanwhile, Shabwa Defense Forces say they repelled Houthi infiltration attempts against military positions on the Harib and Bayhan fronts, inflicting losses on the attacking forces. After yesterday’s pause, the government side appears to be gradually returning to offensive operations. The next question is whether these strikes remain focused on disrupting and containing the Houthi advance or mark the beginning of a broader attempt to regain the initiative after the fall of the West Coast.

Uptick in Coalition Close Air Support (CAS) in Central Yemen Front lines in central and rural Taiz show signs of stabilizing following the collapse of the West Coast front, with fighting yesterday along the northern outskirts of Al-Wazi'iyah offering a clear example. According to local accounts, Houthi forces deployed dozens of technicals and armored vehicles toward Al-Barh in an attempt to open a new front and outflank government-aligned forces around Jabal Qardad and Bani Omar (see map in the previous post). Both fronts have reportedly withstood repeated Houthi assaults throughout the week, defended by a coalition of forces from the المركز الاعلامي لمحور تعز Taiz-Tur Al-Baha Axis, Southern Giants Brigades المركز الإعلامي ل ألوية العمالقة الجنوبية, National Shield Forces قوات درع الوطن , and local tribal resistance. The latest assault reportedly involved military vehicles captured from المقاومة الوطنية during the earlier collapse of the coastal front. Heavy clashes followed, while coalition airstrikes reportedly targeted Houthi positions and reinforcements. According to local طه صالح account, the attacking forces were eventually pushed back. The fighting highlights the importance of local resistance in Taiz, where residents have historically mobilized against Houthi advances. Meanwhile, local residents on Facebook are disputing claims circulating on social media that Houthi forces have withdrawn from the Al-Wazi'iyah and Al-Kadahah fronts. They stress that the retreat of units involved in a particular assault should not be mistaken for a broader withdrawal from established positions. These conflicting reports also raise concerns about information warfare surrounding the Taiz front. Local sources allege that claims of a Houthi withdrawal are part of a psychological and information operation intended to create a false sense of security among opposing forces following the failure of recent assaults.

War in #Yemen #SITREP | The camera above the battlefield is becoming almost as important to the information war as the weapon hitting the target. The flow of drone footage showing attacks on Houthi personnel, positions, and equipment is becoming hard to ignore. Today alone, several videos released by forces aligned with Yemen's internationally recognized government point to the growing role of drones, artillery, and ISR in frontline operations and battlefield messaging. One video released by the Seventh Military Region Command (MRC) shows a drone strike targeting a group of Houthi personnel. The group appears to be moving with camouflaged SUVs and motorcycles. Another video from the Seventh MRC shows ISR drones being used to locate Houthi positions and direct artillery fire. The significance is not only the ability to pinpoint targets. The same aerial platforms are recording the strikes, producing footage that can later be used for battle-damage assessment, information operations, and psychological messaging. Taiz is also seeing renewed activity. Maj. Gen. Hamdi Shukri, commander of the Fourth MRC, inspected frontline positions around the city, including the eastern approaches, the western front, Wadi Hadhran, al-Shaqab, and the southern front. The visit focused on combat readiness, deployments, coordination, and the condition of forces holding forward positions. Separately, government forces in the Taiz axis said they repelled a Houthi assault in the al-Safa area of the Kalaba front, northeast of Taiz. Their statement claimed eight Houthi fighters were killed and 15 wounded during fighting involving several types of weapons. There was also significant activity farther west. The National Resistance Forces said concentrated strikes against Houthi forces south of Hodeidah left more than 33 Houthi personnel killed or wounded, including field commanders. The forces also aired combat footage showing artillery fire and multiple rocket launcher systems being used against Houthi positions. As with the Taiz figures, the reported casualties remain claims by a party to the conflict. At the same time, the National Resistance Forces announced losses of their own. They mourned three fighters killed on the western coast, Abdulwahab Fadl Ahmed al-Matri, Hatem Hamoud Saleh Mohammed al-Qasimi, and Abdulraqib Ahmed Salah Haidar. In Marib, the Yemen National Army also mourned Maj. al-Harith Hassan Hassan Sumay, known as Abu Hammam, identified as commander of the Special Missions Battalion of Force 22. The picture emerging from today's releases is one of active fronts stretching from Taiz and Marib to the western coast. More striking is the volume and variety of combat footage now entering the information space. ISR drones, precision targeting, artillery correction, conventional artillery, multiple rocket launchers, strike documentation, and propaganda are increasingly being folded into the same battlefield cycle.

🚨 Iranian IRGC personnel are reportedly being killed alongside the Houthis as Yemeni government forces continue advancing in the strategically critical Al-Jawf front. Government forces say they seized Al-Mathafat, Al-Masariyah Hill and roughly 20 km of Houthi berms and trenches east of Al-Hazm, while images circulating from the fighting show Iranian identity documents said to have been recovered from dead personnel. 🔻 The geography makes these gains important. Al-Hazm is the capital of Al-Jawf and sits on an axis connecting Houthi-held territory toward Sana’a and Saada, while the desert routes running south and southeast connect toward Marib and the Saudi border. Al-Jawf has historically been a gateway through which the Houthis could pressure Marib from the north. (Sana’a Center) 🔻 Taking positions east of Al-Hazm can disrupt Houthi movement and resupply across that desert corridor, while forcing the Houthis to defend Al-Jawf at the same time they are fighting government forces on fronts in Al-Bayda, Taiz and Hodeidah. Government forces have also warned civilians away from major Al-Jawf/Marib routes leading toward Sana’a as their counteroffensive expands. (Al Jazeera) 🔻 Geopolitically, Al-Jawf matters far beyond one battlefield. It borders Saudi Arabia, connects toward the Houthi heartland of Saada and provides an approach toward Sana’a. Pressure here also forces the Houthis to divert manpower and weapons away from their offensives toward Marib and the Red Sea coast. (Sana’a Center) The broader significance is what this could mean for the Islamic Republic. If Iranian personnel are confirmed among those killed, it would be another indication that Iran is being forced to put its own people closer to the battlefield as its most strategically important surviving proxy comes under pressure from multiple directions. Al-Jawf is not Sana’a, but pushing west through it threatens one of the corridors protecting the Houthi capital and turns what was once a Houthi route toward Marib into a potential government route back toward the heart of Houthi-controlled Yemen.

Intense fighting is underway in Yemen’s Taiz governorate, where Houthi forces are pressing a major offensive. The battlefield situation remains fluid and difficult to verify, but accounts from two Yemeni National Army officers involved in military operations suggest that government defenses have not experienced a collapse comparable to what was seen on the West Coast front. The Houthis are claiming major territorial advances, but the two officers tell Basha باشا that government forces, backed by coalition airstrikes, local tribes and resistance fighters, are engaged in heavy fighting to prevent Houthi forces from capturing Jabal Jardad. According to the officers, Houthi fighters attempted to advance from the villages of Al-Qarsab and Dar al-Kafir but were forced to withdraw after sustaining casualties. Fighting also continues around Rasin and Nu’man. The officers dispute Houthi claims of territorial gains and reports that the highway connecting Taiz city and Al-Turbah is at risk of encirclement. The offensive appears aimed at disrupting the strategic road network linking Taiz and Al-Turbah with Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen’s internationally recognized government and home to one of the country’s most important ports. Cutting these routes would threaten a key transport and supply connection between government-held areas. Separately, قوات درع الوطن anti-tank teams used a Kornet anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) to target a gathering of Houthi military vehicles in the Al-Manbah area of Al-Kadahah. Furthermore, the Houthi-controlled government compound in Al-Houban, north of Taiz city, was also reportedly subjected to heavy shelling.

With high confidence, Basha باشا confirms that Houthi military mobilization has increased. I will share a more detailed analysis next week on why the Houthis have not pulled the trigger yet. For now, I want to highlight reporting from Yemeni journalist فارس الحميري | Fares Alhemyari. He reports that reconnaissance aircraft were seen flying over Sana'a and its suburbs this evening for the first time since the regional military operations began a week ago. Over the past few days similar surveillance flights were observed over Hudaydah, Dhamar, Hajjah, and Sa'dah, the Houthi stronghold in northern Yemen. According to Fares' local sources, there has also been a partial evacuation of sensitive facilities in Sana'a, including financial and economic offices. Other sources say the Houthis have lost contact since Saturday with several of their members who were in Iran, including military specialists and personnel from a naval unit that had been sent to Tehran in recent years. Separately, a Houthi military unit led by Mohammed Jamil al Marani (Abu Shahid) reportedly moved from a base in Sana'a toward Sirwah district in western Mar'ib, an area near Yemen’s key oil region. Sources also say tensions have emerged between Iranian advisers in Sana'a and senior Houthi commanders. At the same time, the Houthis appear to be preparing defensive measures. Over the past few hours they have deployed dozens of air defense platforms on mountains and high ground around Sana'a, as well as additional systems in Hudaydah and on islands they control in the Red Sea. Below is the latest Houthi "warning" video titled, "Legitimate Right"

War in #Yemen #SITREP | 7 PM local time | Government-backed المركز الإعلامي ل ألوية العمالقة الجنوبية and قوات درع الوطن forces have reached Mocha District and secured the highway running from Bab al-Mandab through Dhubab to the Mocha junction. Forces are now preparing to push toward Mocha city and recapture its airport and seaport. There are still pockets of Houthi forces in the area, and fighting is not over. But this is already a major victory for the anti-Houthi coalition and a significant reversal of the Houthi gains along Yemen’s southern Red Sea coast. Easy come, easy go.

🔴 #Breaking: Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪 has orchestrated its first major terror operation in Yemen 🇾🇪 since its withdrawal. Yemeni security forces in Aden said a failed assassination attempt targeted Hamdi Shukri, a senior Giants Brigades commander. A car bomb hit the convoy of the Second Giants Brigade commander in Jaoula, north of Aden, killing two and injuring five. This follows a familiar pattern. Abu Dhabi and its fugitive agent Aidarous Al Zubaidi were previously implicated in the 2015 assassination of former Aden governor Major General Jaafar Saad, who opposed Abu Dhabi’s plans to control Aden, an attack the UAE later blamed on ISIS.
