Less room for insulation next to the window. Not for me

Seen the insulation process yet?

@PoliticsBoy2025 @310Ventures I have a video on that

Or you could just be a normal person who wants to maximize natural light with a window that’s twice as wide and half of it slides open.

Perhaps

Seems a cool and functional feature, but now you have a section of wall uninsulated. Additionally, if even minor repairs are needed for the slide rail or debris build-up, the owner will need to cut into the wall for access.

You ain't need to cut into the wall before engaging in maintenance, also there's space for insulation just that the thickness gon reduce a bit.

You have to frame the whole wall for an opening, you lose a ton of insulation and you add complexity (so cost) for when you inevitably need to change it. Terrible idea all around.

It's only terrible to you because you don't know much about the essentials

No home should have that in a cold weather climate

Seen the insulation process yet?

@BuilderGary1 We know the outcome already, this type of pocket window is functionally useless for insulation

@BuilderGary1 Not really.

Pocket windows use space needed for insulation. Not suitable for most climates.

Nice, no insulation in the wall. Perfect.

Seen the insulation process yet?

Sliding glass door is cheaper, bigger, and easier to replace in 20 years.

You're right 👍🏾

This framing around the window will never pass inspection

Gon pass

Just wasting half the window. This shits dumb af

Not dumb

We do a lot of big sliding glass lift and slide pocket doors in the houses we build. I’ve never seen a window though. Very cool. This is the track for a 21’ lift and slide pocket door with 6, 9’ tall glass panels. 2nd biggest one I’ve done

A pocketed window is a great feature in building

@CompleteNutter2 Also working on a contractor been a carpenter for heck 46 years now I'm really liking that window going to check it out there are ways to insulate without losing much of an R value

@CompleteNutter2 Please do check it out!

@goldenlionroar @CompleteNutter2 It's overly complicated, for the framing etc, and quite honestly pointless. What's the upside. It looks like a small door?

@Layemie001 @goldenlionroar The framing is very basic. It’s just an oversized pocket door. A 21 foot door looks small? It’s basically an entire wall made of glass that disappears…creating a seamless indoor/outdoor space for entertaining. Tell me you don’t build high end customs without telling me

@Layemie001 @goldenlionroar You... Didn't see the framing. They cut out the 2x6 studs to put it in there. It's just not worth it. Thats all I'm saying.

@Layemie001 @goldenlionroar I thought you were referring to my pic. If we were to put in a window like that, it would definitely be overbuilt. Oversized lumber at the minimum…more likely a couple of steel columns and an I beam.

Now imagine a fixed window on the left side and this one slides behind it instead of into a pocket. You’d double your window space. Now add a screen to keep bugs out. Congrats, we’ve invented a regular sliding window.

Every designs has its own importance.

So, you have a window sized part of your wall with no insulation right by your window?

There's a video for the insulation, care to see?

It’s awesome til dead bugs and dust get in there and in about 3 to 5 years and you can’t slide it anymore. Hopefully get stuck shut.

Vacuum cleaner??

Vac in the track? How do you access that? With the window closed blocking the track opening or when it’s slid open and blocking the entire track?

For every complexity, there's an easy approach.

the wheel, the window, the door have been already invented. move on please to something new. solve new problems.

Okay!

When pocket slides fail, they’re brutal to fix. Might as well just make it a full window at that point.

They're easy to fix only if you take the right measure.

Terrible r value on double the sqft of the window itself.

I'm not sure that's terrible

Think of all the bugs and dirt and moss and water and shit that's going to get crammed into your wall.

Gonna have some seals

"Honey, hang this picture for me. "

💯

Imagine if that thing failed 10 years down the road. Have to tear a whole in the wall just to get to it.

dust build up over time.. and it stucks. how are you going to clean it? genuine question

Vacuum cleaner??

Where this at? No header abut the window?

My anxiety 📈 seeing her not sliding all the way to the left.

She did

Why?

Go listen to "WHY LOVE" by Asake

Great big slab of wall with less insulation... brilliant...

So you get twice the space with little to no insulation

There's a video for the insulation, care to see?

When I win the lottery I'm going to build a house with NO insulation and put these windows in every room. I'll crank up the AC and laugh at all of the paupers worrying about their electricity billz.

😎😎

I’d rather have insulation

There's a video for the insulation, care to see?

That's the space where the insulation is supposed to go

It was insulated

Not as well as it would normally be

Nice. Till the track in the wall comes loose.

Too easy to breech like sliding glass doors.

Depends...

Yeah looks cool. Can’t really insulate it

There's a video for the insulation, care to see?

What’s the R value ?

I don't like it, but I prefer 19th century widow designs so that's just me. If there was some benefit over current - frame into a RO- I'd say sure. Seems like an esthetic choice over improvement of function. Little " Hey look at this" for the Homeowner at dinner parties.

It's functional as well

I hate it. That means the wall next to it has to be blank. No pictures, no nothing. I have barn doors throughout my house and I like some of them, but they are problematic in some places because of this very issue. Just put in a normal window.

Okay!

Yes, I see and un-insulated space to the side of the window

It was insulated

Maybe, but not as much as the rest of the wall. That space for the window REDUCES the available space for insulation
