A potential record El niño in the Pacific is causing records to be broken elsewhere. No hurricanes have formed yet in the Atlantic in 2026 due to El niño-induced atmospheric conditions and none are expected to form soon.

The Met Office is now telling us that CO2 has nothing to do with frequency of hurricanes. It is controlled by ocean currents. I am predicting that CO2 will be to blame when the hurricanes come back.

So global warming will cause more stronger hurricanes except when there are none and we make up a story for it

For the last 4 weeks SST anomalies in ENSO region 3.4 have remained the same, so I can see why they're being circumspect with 'potential'. And it's no 'record late hurricane season' because there were none in 1907 & 1914. There's really no record to break. #ukweather

Speculation and fear-mongering are not a good look.

Did we never have El Niño before this one that caused no Atlantic Hurricanes by 11th September

Making stuff up as they go along.

Almost like no major hurricanes is bad thing?

So el nino is more of a factor than CO2. Fascinating.
