If even a Senior Advocate and former Chief Minister can face such hostility and lack of security within the premises of the High Court, one can only imagine the situation ordinary Trinamool workers and supporters are confronting across the state. A court of law is a place meant for justice, dignity, and constitutional values — not for shouting derogatory slogans or branding individuals as “thieves.” The continuous disrespectful and insulting conduct displayed by Suryaneel Babu towards Mamata Banerjee since the day of the election counting deserves strong condemnation. The second court hearing pertaining to a case I submitted before the Sindh High Court was held today. During the previous hearing, the honorable court issued notices to the Defense Minister, the FIA, and other relevant officials, and notified them to appear and submit their responses. However, none of the officials appeared before the honorable court during the second hearing. The court has now scheduled the next hearing for next week. This is very unfortunate and highlights the impunity that law enforcement agencies in this country possess. They continue to disregard not only the courts but also the law and the Constitution.

Let’s be absolutely clear: If an officer is not in uniform, they MUST show their warrant card. If they are in uniform, they SHOULD show it when asked — it’s not optional “courtesy.” It’s professional obligation. When exercising stop-and-search powers, they MUST identify themselves properly, including name or number and station. This isn’t about being “anti-police.” This is about the rule of law — the same law the police claim to uphold. A badge, a uniform, a vest — none of these replace lawful identification. And in a time when trust in policing is collapsing, refusing to identify yourself only fuels suspicion. The public has EVERY right to: • Ask for identification • Record the interaction • Refuse compliance until the officer identifies themselves • File formal complaints if they don’t No one in this country — not even the police — is above accountability. The Johannesburg High Court was clear in its judgment: all illegal structures inside Marble Towers were to be shut down and removed, and the building brought into full compliance with safety regulations. The Court further ordered that all non-compliant structures must not be occupied or accessed by any person. Our return to Marble Towers has revealed a disturbing disregard for this court order. We found some of the very structures the Court declared unlawful still operating and being accessed. This is a serious violation of the Court’s judgment and places lives at risk. Property owners cannot continue to ignore the law while endangering residents, workers and members of the public. The City of Johannesburg will act decisively to enforce compliance with the Court order. Can the police harass a citizen even after a court stay order based on mere allegations? Or is his only “fault” that he is Muslim, and therefore treated as an accused by default? The victim’s family has shared copies of the High Court stay order along with videos of the alleged police actions. According to them: Haji Firoz Khan (Jhijhana and nearby areas, Shamli district) was slapped with false rape and murder allegations and has been jailed twice Once, he was allegedly picked up from his home without an arrest warrant and jailed for 2 months. The second time, he spent 4 months and 10 days in jail. After securing a home stay from the Allahabad High Court, the order was reportedly shown to Jhijhana police, who allegedly said they “do not accept Allahabad High Court orders.” Despite this, the family claims their property was seized, and police repeatedly entered their home. The family further alleges that when the victim’s son posted a video on Instagram and it went viral, police came to detain him and falsely accused him of causing an accident involving five people. At the police station, they allege threats to beat women, verbal abuse, pressure to delete videos, and intimidation for recording inside the station. This case raises serious concerns about the rule of law, contempt of judicial orders, and targeted harassment of a minority family. It is a well-established principle of law, and indeed of civil society, that once parties have submitted their grievances to the judiciary, they are duty-bound to maintain the status quo and allow the court to determine the issues before it. Any deviation from this principle not only undermines the justice system but also sets a dangerous precedent for lawlessness. My younger brother, who serves as the Chairman of Next Limited, and I have spared no effort in trying to identify and reach out to the woman who lays claim to the property in question, with the sincere intention of exploring a peaceful and amicable resolution. Obama: I am worried about how willing Republicans in congress have been to surrender their role as members of a coequal branch of government, refusing to block the president, even when they know he is out of line. Even when a lot of them will privately admit that power is being abused in ways that will hurt their constituents and hurt the country. I worry about a supreme court that so far has shown no willingness to check the administration's excesses, even when those actions break legal precedent and seem to defy the bedrock principle that no one is above the law.
