Researchers at Tokamak Energy have captured for the first time a real-time, high-speed video of plasma behaviour inside their ST40 spherical tokamak, tracking visible green and red light emissions as the fusion process occurs. This visual insight comes via a camera operating at thousands of frames per second, offering unprecedented detail of how the plasma evolves, interacts with the surrounding lithium blanket and outer regions, and ultimately radiates energy. The imaging enables scientists to observe how the ultra-hot core transitions outward into cooler zones, how magnetic confinement shapes the plasma behaviour, and how impurities or outer-region interactions influence the process. By giving a ‘star-in-a-donut’ view of fusion in action, this breakthrough adds a new diagnostic tool to the development of fusion energy, helping engineers refine the magnetic confinement, optimise plasma stability and better understand the heat and light flows at play. It was slowed down by 100x. All this was for 0.3s A tokamak is one of the most advanced devices ever created to achieve controlled nuclear fusion, the same process that powers the Sun. Its goal is simple in principle but incredibly challenging in practice: heat a gas until it becomes plasma, raise that plasma to over 100 million degrees, and confine it long enough for hydrogen nuclei to fuse and release energy. Because no material container can survive such temperatures, a tokamak uses powerful magnetic fields to hold and shape the plasma like an invisible cage. The device has a distinctive doughnut-shaped (toroidal) chamber surrounded by magnetic coils. When the machine is switched on, electric currents and external magnets work together to create helical magnetic fields that trap the plasma and keep it away from the walls. As the plasma spirals around these magnetic lines, it heats up dramatically. Additional heating comes from methods like radio-frequency waves and neutral-beam injection, pushing the plasma toward the extreme temperatures needed for fusion. Inside this tightly controlled environment, hydrogen isotopes such as deuterium and tritium can collide and fuse, releasing fast neutrons and a burst of energy. The goal of tokamak research is to reach a point where the fusion reactions produce more energy than the system consumes, a milestone known as “net energy gain.” Modern machines like ITER, JET, and Tokamak Energy’s ST40 are bringing this vision closer, using advanced diagnostics, superconducting magnets, and increasingly stable plasma control. 👉

Nonfiction Labs is building proteins that can be switched on- or off with magnetic fields. They plan to use these proteins to make cancer therapeutics, for example, that are only active near a tumor but inactive everywhere else in the body, thus reducing toxicity. The idea to do this came, interestingly, from extreme skepticism about magnetobiology as a whole and, in particular, some old-school papers that tried to explain how birds navigate by following magnetic fields. Andrew York, a company co-founder, was working at Calico when he was asked to give a talk about an area outside of his own expertise. He was handed a Scientific American piece about how birds navigate using Earth's magnetic field. He tracked down the source article, went through its citations, and became utterly convinced that the effect was not real. The classical explanation is that birds have cryptochromes, or blue-light-sensing proteins, inside of the photoreceptors in their eyes. It’s thought that these proteins act like a magnetic compass that tells the bird which direction to fly. But any time anybody studied these cryptochomes in the presence of magnetic fields, they only saw effects of less than 1% (in terms of fluorescence change) and only under very weird conditions, like at ultra-cold temperatures. The only result that seemed convincing to Andrew came from Adam Cohen’s lab, at Harvard, in which they took a synthetic molecule (called a phenanthrene–dimethylaniline) and showed that, in a weird buffer, its fluorescence would rise about 80% when exposed to a small, 0.1 T magnetic field. This obviously was not at all indicative of real biology, but at least it demonstrated that magnetically-sensitive molecules COULD exist. From there, Andrew began working with Maria Ingaramo to find proteins that might do the same, in more physiological conditions. They found that GFP (nothing special; literally the same protein everyone uses) is slightly magneto-responsive. Over several months, they engineered the GFP protein to behave more and more strongly in the presence of magnetic fields. And thus, intense skepticism —> more careful experiments —> a company that seems to be doing useful research. TL;DR: Professional haters can do great things in the world! There is always a place for skepticism. Desveaux’s Theory of Helix Fields Tweet 1 of 2 For decades, we treated the universe like a giant stage where particles act out their lives. What if the stage itself isn't empty? What if the "void" of space is a structured, rotating medium that is constantly twisting & turning? We have been looking at the pieces of the puzzle, but ignoring the board they sit on. It’s been hiding in plain in sight? My idea on Helix Fields suggests everything we see, from the smallest atom to the largest galaxy, is actually a "corkscrew" in the fabric of reality. In standard physics, we think of particles like tiny billiard balls. In Helix Field Theory, we rethink them as solitons - essentially stable, high-energy "whirlpools" or "corkscrews" made of space itself. Imagine a ribbon. If you pull it straight, it’s flat and simple. But if you twist it, you create a spiral. That twist is what we call Torsion. My theory says that what we perceive as "matter" is simply a place where the vacuum of space is rotating so tightly that it creates a "density core." To explain how this all works, we use a mathematical roadmap called a Lagrangian. Think of it as a master recipe or cookbook for the universe. It combines four key ingredients: 1. Electricity and Magnetism: How light and energy move. 2. Scalar Fields: The underlying "pressure" of the vacuum in space itself 3. Matter: The physical "stuff" we can touch. 4. Torsion: The "twist" or rotational force of space. By looking at the universe through this "helix" lens, we can solve two of the biggest headaches in modern science: The Hubble Tension - Astronomers are currently arguing over how fast the universe is expanding because different measurements give different answers. My theory suggests this "tension" exists because we haven't accounted for the universal rotation (torsion) affecting our measurements. The Dark Sector - We know there is "Dark Matter" and "Dark Energy" out there, but we can't find it. Helix Field Theory suggests these aren't invisible particles, but rather geometric artifacts - ripples and shadows created by the rotating vacuum itself. We are moving away from a universe of "things" and toward a universe of geometry and motion. If the vacuum of space is a structured, rotating medium, then we aren't just living in the universe - we are part of its physical rotation. The "Quantum Substratum" isn't just a theory; it’s a new way to understand the very "twist" of existence. - Protons: tiny rotating black hole-like cores anchoring the scalar field - Neutrons: stabilisers that prevent proton cores from decaying - Quarks & Gluons: the deepest torsion knots; the strong force is intrinsic torsion - Electrons: corkscrew-shaped solitons producing microscopic magnetic vortices - Neutrinos: ultra-light messenger waves traveling along the field’s “communication lines.” - Photons: instruction ripples traveling at light speed - Dark Photons: the “torsion messengers” of the Helix Field. They carry the twist, regulate the twist, and stabilize the twisting motion - W and Z bosons: on/off switches and stabilising nodes in the neutrino network - Higgs field: the local density of the scalar field, giving solitons their effective mass - Dark energy: the gentle outward push caused by the field’s overall rotation - Entropy: friction in that rotation, giving time its arrow - Cosmic Microwave Background: the universal “sustain pedal” like on a guitar or piano, keeping the field’s vibrations in phase. In this vision, dark matter isn’t missing matter - it’s the gravitational echo of the scalar field itself. Exploring antiparticles further: they may regulate the flow of time itself. In a rotational and torsional universe Time is a neutral observer: the past and future are fixed, but the present - our free will - is the point where choices echo into fate. Time is the “God” of the universe: ever-present, ever-aware, never interfering - just watching, as we decide which thread to follow.

Most of us were taught that PLASMA is an exotic fourth state of matter. That framing is backwards. Plasma is the normal expression of the electromagnetic field when charge differentiates and begins to move freely. Matter is the rare exception. Approximately 99.9% of the visible universe is plasma. Only about 0.1% appears as matter. Stars are plasma. Nebulae are plasma. Solar winds are plasma. The vast filaments forming the cosmic web are plasma. Plasma is not rare. Plasma is the fundamental expression of the field. Matter shows up when the field does something very specific. Electric differentiation pushes outward. Magnetic tension provides containment. When these forces reach a stable relationship, they phase-lock. In the Grammar of Projection this relationship is expressed as a coherence metric: T = |e × v| / |B × ω| Where: • e = characteristic electric or motive coupling scale of the system • v = relevant propagation or transport velocity • B = containing or stabilizing field strength • ω = characteristic oscillatory rate of containment formative pressure: |e × v| containing tension: |B × ω| When formative pressure and containing tension reach impedance match, the field stops dispersing and begins oscillating in place. Standing waves appear. Matter is simply plasma where electric formative pressure and magnetic containing tension phase-lock into a persistent repeating pattern. Atoms are stable plasma configurations. Planets, bodies, and biological systems are nested standing-wave structures of a plasma field. The implication is profound. The universe is not primarily made of particles. The universe is primarily flowing electromagnetic field. Matter is the rare moment where that flow holds in dynamic stability. A useful way to visualize this is like threads being woven together. Electric differentiation behaves like threads moving outward. Magnetic tension weaves those threads into stable relational patterns. The universe is not literally weaving fabric. The metaphor helps us visualize how flowing field tensions interlock into stable structures. When phase-lock occurs, structure appears. Structure is plasma remembering how to return to itself. So the real inversion becomes visible: Plasma is the norm. Matter is the anomaly. Which raises a much deeper question.
